Heading to the Archeological site of Dahshor
Dahshur is one of Egypt’s most fascinating archaeological sites, located about 40 km south of Cairo. It is part of the Memphis necropolis and played an important role in the development of pyramid construction during the Old Kingdom and Middle Kingdom.
The site is famous for two remarkable pyramids built during the reign of King Sneferu, the founder of the 4th Dynasty and father of Khufu, the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The first is the Bent Pyramid, named after its unusual shape. Its lower section has a steep angle of approximately 54 degrees, while the upper section changes to a gentler angle of about 43 degrees. This change is believed to have been made to improve the pyramid’s stability during construction.
The second is the Red Pyramid, named after the reddish color of its limestone blocks. It is considered Egypt’s first successful smooth-sided pyramid and represents a major achievement in ancient Egyptian engineering. Its design helped establish the architectural principles later used to build the pyramids at Giza.
Beyond its impressive monuments, Dahshur offers visitors a quieter and less crowded experience than the Giza Plateau. It provides an excellent opportunity to understand how ancient Egyptian architects experimented with different designs before achieving the perfect pyramid shape. Dahshur is therefore an essential stop for anyone interested in the evolution of pyramid construction and the extraordinary engineering skills of ancient Egypt.
Memphis
In Memphis, you will enjoy discovering the remains of Egypt’s first capital and exploring its fascinating open-air museum. You will admire the colossal statue of Ramesses II, a masterpiece of ancient Egyptian sculpture, and the beautiful alabaster Sphinx. You will also learn about Ptah, the god of creation and craftsmanship, and discover how Memphis became a major political and religious center. This visit offers a wonderful opportunity to experience ancient Egyptian history, admire remarkable monuments, and capture unforgettable photos.
To the Archeological site of Saqqara
Discover Saqqara on a fascinating journey through ancient Egyptian history, exploring its remarkable monuments through the lens of biblical history and the world in which the stories of the Bible unfolded. You will enjoy visiting the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the oldest major stone pyramid in Egypt, and learning how ancient Egyptian architecture developed thousands of years ago.
Saqqara also provides an opportunity to discuss Egypt's place in the Bible, particularly the stories of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses. The biblical account of Joseph describes his rise to power in Egypt and the country's importance as a center of agriculture and royal administration. While no archaeological evidence conclusively identifies Joseph or Moses at Saqqara, the monuments help visitors understand the grandeur and complexity of ancient Egyptian society.
You will also discover the royal tombs, ancient burial traditions, and religious beliefs surrounding the afterlife. These fascinating features provide valuable context for understanding the cultural environment of biblical Egypt.
This experience combines archaeology, faith, and history, allowing you to explore the wonders of Saqqara while reflecting on the connections between ancient Egyptian civilization and the biblical narrative. It is an inspiring visit for anyone interested in discovering Egypt beyond its monuments and understanding the historical world behind the Scriptures.
