Masroor Rock Cut Temple
First, you'll head to the Masroor Rock Cut Temple, passing through the scenic Kangra Valley and a local village. This journey offers a glimpse into the area's natural beauty and the daily lives of its residents.
The Masroor Rock Cut Temple complex is dedicated to Rama, Laxmana, and Sita, deities from the Mahabharata, and attracts Hindu devotees from around the globe. Built on a water pond and situated on a hill, the temple provides panoramic views of the surrounding terrain, including the snow-capped peaks of the Dhauladhar Range.
Kangra Fort
Kangra Fort, constructed by the royal Rajput Katoch dynasty of the Kangra State, has origins linked to the ancient Trigarta Kingdom mentioned in the Mahabharata epic. As the largest fort in the Himalayas and likely the oldest dated fort in India, Kangra Fort withstood Akbar’s siege in 1615. However, Akbar's son, Jehangir, successfully captured it in 1620, compelling the submission of the Raja of Chamba, regarded as the most prominent ruler in the region.
Bajreshwari Devi Temple
Bajreshwari Devi Temple is steeped in legend. According to tradition, after Goddess Sati sacrificed herself in honor of Lord Shiva at her father’s Yagya, Shiva carried her body on his shoulder and began his cosmic dance, Tandav. To prevent the world’s destruction, Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to divide Sati's body into 51 parts. The left breast of Sati is said to have fallen at this site, making it a revered Shakti Peeth.
