National Museum
The National Museum is among the most extensive museums in Southeast Asia, housing an impressive array of archaeological, ethnographic, and geographical artifacts. Jakarta Cathedral
Located on Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara, the Cathedral, built in Gothic style, dates back to 1891. It features a tall tower and high windows adorned with beautiful stained glass. Inside the church, there are three altars arranged in a semi-circle. One of its most remarkable features is an old, beautifully crafted altar known for its unique acoustics—it reflects sound much like a conch shell.
Istiqlal Mosque
Istiqlal Mosque, situated in Jakarta, Indonesia, is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and ranks sixth worldwide in terms of capacity for worshippers. Its name, “Istiqlal,” means “Independence” in Arabic. Positioned in the heart of the city, directly across from the National Cathedral, the mosque stands as a symbol of peace and interfaith harmony. (Note: The mosque is closed to visitors every Friday and can only be viewed from the outside.)
Glodok Chinatown
Jakarta’s Chinatown dates back to long before Indonesia became a nation, originating as the Chinatown of Batavia. It was the designated area where the Dutch mandated the Chinese community to reside.
