National Museum

The National Museum is among the most extensive museums in Southeast Asia, housing an impressive array of archaeological, ethnographic, and geographical artifacts. It offers a captivating insight into Indonesia’s diverse cultures, ancient civilizations, and vibrant history. With dedicated galleries for prehistoric, Hindu-Buddhist, and Islamic art, the museum traces the evolution of Indonesian society over thousands of years.

Jakarta Cathedral

Located on Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara, the Cathedral, built in Gothic style, dates back to 1891. It features a tall tower and high windows adorned with beautiful stained glass. Inside the church, there are three altars arranged in a semi-circle. One of its most remarkable features is an old, beautifully crafted altar known for its unique acoustics—it reflects sound much like a conch shell.

Istiqlal Mosque

Istiqlal Mosque, situated in Jakarta, Indonesia, is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and ranks sixth worldwide in terms of capacity for worshippers. Its name, “Istiqlal,” means “Independence” in Arabic. Positioned in the heart of the city, directly across from the National Cathedral, the mosque stands as a symbol of peace and interfaith harmony. (Note: The mosque is closed to visitors every Friday and can only be viewed from the outside.)

Glodok Chinatown

Jakarta’s Chinatown dates back to long before Indonesia became a nation, originating as the Chinatown of Batavia. It was the designated area where the Dutch mandated the Chinese community to reside.

National Monument (MONAS)

The National Monument, standing 132 meters high, is an iconic landmark of Jakarta representing Indonesia’s independence. In its basement, visitors can explore 48 dioramas illustrating the nation’s history. The Independence Room features the Proclamation Gate, the Garuda national emblem, and a gold-plated map of Indonesia.

Jakarta Old Town

This area once served as the hub of the Dutch colonial administration. With its canal and buildings showcasing classic Dutch architecture, it has earned the nickname “Little Amsterdam.”

Interact with puppet masters, discover the art of Indonesian puppet-making, learn how to perform with them, and explore wayang collections from different regions across the country.

Dharma Bakti Temple

Visit the Dharma Bhakti Temple, the oldest Confucian temple in Jakarta, which remains active today as a center for worship, religious ceremonies, and Chinese cultural traditions.

Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa

To conclude today’s trip, we will visit Jakarta’s oldest port, a historic site that once thrived during the Dutch era when they dominated Indonesia’s spice trade. Today, the port remains active for domestic shipping, with traditional Phinisi wooden boats neatly lined up and anchored along its docks.
