The Dark Hedges
A 250 year-old road made world famous by Game of Thrones. The Stunning Bregagh Road, otherwise known as the Dark Hedges or King's Road in Game of Thrones is two rows of beechtrees that were planted in the 18th century by James Stuart, roughly 150+ beech trees where planted to line the entrance to his home - Gracehill House. The Dark Hedges has become one of the most photographed locations anywhere in Ireland, with Game of Thrones tours visiting the area daily along with sightseekers eager to capture the natural phenomena.
Although there are sadly approximately 90 trees remaining due to the influx of visitors, they have started to replant new trees where the old ones once stood. The roots of the trees were inspected leading to the discovery of dry and damaged roots which caused them to blow over. Bregagh Road has now been closed off to help preserve the trees for as long as possible, protecting it for generations to come.
The Giant's Causeway
The Giant's Causeway is Northern Ireland's most famous landmark and a World Heritage Site. It takes its name from the legends of Finn MacCool and is draws people from far and wide to this corner of north Antrim. It has been an official Unesco World Heritage Site since 1986. Formed between 50 and 60 million years ago, the 'causeway' takes its name from the legends of Finn MacCool and draws people from far and wide to this corner of north Antrim. Whether you are just researching about Ireland or planning an Ireland vacation, The Giants Causeway is a must see! The north Antrim coastline in renowned for its scenic beauty and the Giant's Causeway is its unique jewel in the crown, known to the Irish as the 8th Wonder of the World. A jagged promontory of neatly packed columns of hexagonal basalt rocks created some 6 million years ago by a flow of basaltic lava. As the lava cooled it formed these distinctive hexagonal shapes just as the bottom of a dried riverbed would crack into shapes.
