Cathedral square
Close to the Catania Gate and the Jewish quarter, where there is now the Palace of the Dukes of Santo Stefano and next to the once monastery of the Domenican monks, the cathedral was built in the 13th century but modified in the 18th with the adding of baroque altars.
April IX square
We will walk through the Corso Umberto, the shopping road, passing the Town Hall, once Giurati Palace, and the clock tower to get to this large panoramic square, with the churches of San Giuseppe and Sant'Agostino and the view of the bay of Naxos and of Mount Etna.
Odeon
We will get to the end of the pedestrian area, where behind the church of Santa Caterina we will see the excavations of a Greek temple and the small Roman theatre called Odeon, next to the medieval Palace Corvaja.
Ancient theatre
The most visited monument in Sicily, built by the Greeks in the 3rd century b.C. and enlarged by the Romans changing it three times, is nowadays still in use for performances and concerts.
