Piazza Bra' (the Arena Square) at the Statue of Vittorio Emanuele II (the one on horseback)
We'll discover the wonderful Arena and all that it has witnessed in its 2000 years of history. Did you know it's older than the Roman Colosseum? What happened here on the Ides of March of the year 54 AD? Why were 176 people burned alive on 13th February 1278? How did Veronese people spend the nights here during the Second World War bombings? And, finally, how is it used today? A journey through the centuries narrated by the magnificent Arena.
Walking along the most important shopping street of Verona, we'll be blown away not only by its shining shop-windows, but also by the many details to be noticed all around: its pavement in marble stones rich in fossils 60 million years old, the colour of the houses and the design of their iron railings, the green window-shatters and their purpose, the copper pipes, and many small details and their meanings, plus ... an astonishing surprise!
What happened to the Jewish family who lived next to the Synagogue during the Second World War? You'll come to live the story of the Jewish people in Verona during the centuries ...
The ancient Foro Romano, now a lively daily market. In its vibrant and cheerful atmosphere we'll discover what daily life was like in the past and how it has radically changed. We will find out the different techniques used in the buildings throughout the centuries, noticing frescoes and decorations that we would never have noticed on our own, and we'll mingle among the locals shopping for the day.
Passing through fascinating medieval streets and courtyards, we'll reach Piazza Signori (also called Piazza Dante), where we'll hear tales of orphans and nobles in the Medieval period, ordinary citizens and rulers who lived here, and their struggles to survive ...
On your request we can also sit down at one of the cafés and enjoy an ice-cream or a cappuccino while doing people-watching for a while and absorbing the magical and unique atmosphere
Magnificent in their Gothic style, proof of the efforts of the Scala Family to improve their social status, and their capability to reach the top, step by step, one generation after the other ... and their destiny. Their grandeur and suffering, their intrigues and their conquests - which made Verona special.
We'll live the story of Romeo and Juliet in the way it really happened, in the very places where it occurred. We'll feel the real emotions of the star-crossed lovers: their hopes, sorrow, desire, rage, and the deep love which ultimately brought them to death.
Be prepared to cry your eyes out at the sad ending of the story in Juliet's House, and if you'll share this moment with your loved-one it'll be something you'll remember for life. You can post your letter to Juliet, hang your padlock, take a romantic picture together, or, if you're still single, you can participate in a century long tradition to search for true love.

I love staying with people from all over the world and I love seeing their sparkling eyes when they discover the wonderful city of Verona. We often remain friends and stay in touch for many years after, I'm really lucky to have such a nice and rewarding job in such a fantastic city!

We did a virtual with Maria and she was such a joy! She is very knowledgeable and a great story teller! I particularly appreciate her explanations about the architecture of the buildings and her humour. Will keep in touch for sure! ????????
