Hamdeok Beach (함덕해수욕장)
Hamdeok Beach, situated along Jeju Olle Trail Course 19, is also known as Hamdeok Seoubonghaebyeon Beach, named after the nearby volcanic cone. Located just 20 kilometers from Jeju International Airport, it is renowned for its stunning emerald-blue waters, tall palm trees, and white sandy shore, making it one of Jeju's top three beaches.
On the western side, a bridge extends over the water, adding to the picturesque scenery. Visitors can also enjoy a grassy field ideal for picnics and a scenic coastal walking trail. The beach is especially popular on summer evenings when many come to admire the night sea.
Seoubong Volcanic Cone is particularly striking in spring, blanketed in vibrant yellow canola blossoms. A hike to its summit rewards visitors with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Hallasan Mountain on clear days.
Seongsan Ilchulbong (성산일출봉)
Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, standing 180 meters above sea level, was formed over 5,000 years ago by an underwater volcanic eruption. Initially an isolated island, it became connected to the mainland through the accumulation of sand and soil.
At its summit lies a vast crater, approximately 600 meters in diameter and 90 meters deep, created by the interaction of molten lava and cold seawater. Once used for agriculture, the crater is now covered in a picturesque field of silver grass and has been featured in various films.
Visitors can enjoy stunning views from the top, including the nearby Udo Island and breathtaking sunrises. Recognized for its natural significance, the tuff cone was designated as a natural reserve on July 19, 2000.
Seokjikoji (섭치코지)
Seopjikoji, named after its distinctive shape extending into the sea, derives its name from the Jeju dialect word "koji," meaning cape. Located just south of Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, it is a well-known tourist destination. From the peak of Seopjikoji, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the ocean, fields of canola flowers, and the nearby tuff cone.
Atop the hill stands a traditional beacon fire station, constructed from volcanic rocks. It measures 4 meters in height and 9 meters in diameter. Behind it lies Bulgeunoreum Volcanic Cone, characterized by its striking red soil, with a white lighthouse that contrasts beautifully against the vibrant landscape.
Seopjikoji’s picturesque scenery has made it a favored filming location for numerous Korean movies and dramas.
Seongeup Folk Village (성읍민속촌)
This village, which showcases the traditional lifestyle of old Jeju, has been recognized as an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage. Unlike typical folk villages, it remains a living community where residents continue their daily lives. Many of the locals serve as volunteer guides, providing visitors with valuable insights and stories about the village's history and culture.
In the heart of the village, the Saw-leaf Zelkova and Japanese Hackberry trees stand as notable landmarks, offering a serene spot worth exploring.
Jeju Stone Park (제주돌문화공원)
Situated in Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju Stone Park draws inspiration from the island’s rich cultural heritage and its traditional use of stones. The park’s central theme revolves around the origins and identity of Jeju Island, rooted in the legend of Seolmundae Halmang (Grandmother Seolmundae), who is said to have formed the island and the Obaek Janggun (Five Hundred Generals) stones.
Serving as both a historical and cultural site, the park features an extensive collection of stones that symbolize the island's foundation and cultural legacy.
