At Gyeongbokgung subway station or your hotel in Seoul
- Take the subway line 3 to get to Gyeongbokgung!
Pass by Gwangwhamun square, the agora for democracy in Korean history and culture. Then walk around Gyeongbokgung Palace to experience the elegant royal culture and history of the Joseon Dynasty. If you’d like, you can also rent a Hanbok here (Korean traditional clothes) for your time in the palace (optional). Guard changing ceremony starts at 10am and 2pm and takes about 15mins.
Get out from the north exit of the palace to see the Blue House which was the official residence of South Korean Presidents until being recently opened to the public. Its majestic hip-and-gable-blue-tiled roof which consists of a total of 150,000 carefully baked tiles designed to last for over a century with emphasized curves serves as a striking exterior architecture. In Chunchugwan (the press room), have a chance to be the blue house spokesman on the day!
It is home to about 1,000 hanoks that represent the traditional beauty of Korea. These hanoks are located in old alleys. In Joseon Dynasty, royal and upper class families lived there, as Bukchon was near two palaces. It was also the ideal place to live according to the Feng Shui theory, with Cheonggyecheon Stream in front and Bukaksan Mountain behind it. You will be guided to the best photo spots with beautiful scenery.
Ikseon-Dong is a neighborhood with the cutest little alleys with many Hanoks, trendy boutiques, amazing cafes and great restaurants. Someone call Ikseon-Dong the hipster place of Seoul. It is certainly one of the trendiest and most up and coming neighbourhoods in Seoul. You will simply love it!
Make sure in Myeongdong on an empty stomach! The streets are awash with restaurants and stalls for street foods such as Tornado Potato, Tteokbokki (Korean rice cake), Candied Fruit...and so on. Enjoy the famous Myeongdong market or a whole street dedicated to fried chicken and beer establishments. Myeongdong Walking Street is the epicentre of Seoul’s retail and fashion world, with hundreds of shops to choose from, plus numerous bars and restaurants hidden along its alleys.
