Hello, my name is Shoten, please call me Sho. I was born in a local area in Toyama prefecture. I majored in civil engineering at a college and am interested in historical infrastructures. After graduation, I continued to study English at a local English circle. In international activities, I also guided foreign people around Toyama Prefecture, Ishikawa Prefecture, and Gifu Prefecture. After retirement, I work as a guide interpreter and a translator. The Hokuriku region has many sightseeing spots, including beautiful landscapes like Kenrokuen Garden and Tateyama, tasty food like traditional Kaga dishes and fresh seafood from Toyama Bay, and traditional crafts like Takaoka copperware and Inami woodcarving. I introduce these spots and historical infra tourism, such as the Kurobe dam and industrial tourism. I look forward to welcoming you to the Hokuriku region.

I lived in Seattle, WA US for several years to study public policy and urban planning at University of Washington and Washington State Department of Transportation . The US life has awakened me to realize its beauty and value of the Japanese nature and culture. After coming back from US, I have started my professional career of the infrastructure development in both developed and developing countries as a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) expert for more than 20 years. I have provided hospitality and honesty as a Japanese during my professional career. I can give you not only sightseeing tours but also technical tours with my expertise. I live in Osaka where an ancient capital city, Kyoto is located within a hour by train. I can show you how Japanese has developed the capital city with urban planning and infrastructure development. I look forward to seeing you here in Japan.

I left Canada in 1998 for a 6-month stay in Japan—and never looked back. After two decades immersed in the culture of Osaka, I’ve spent the last six years mastering Tokyo’s hidden corners. As a scholar and educator, I bridge the gap between Japan’s legendary history and its modern culture and culinary scenes. I don’t just show you the city; I give you 25 years of lived perspective.

I was born and raised in Osaka, so I’m a true local! I love traveling—both around Japan and overseas—and discovering new places, cultures, and of course… delicious food! In addition to being a guide, I also run my own office as a certified labor and social security attorney in Japan. Thanks to this professional background, you can feel assured that I’m a trustworthy and responsible guide who can flexibly arrange tours to fit your needs. Before starting my own practice, I also worked as a tour conductor for domestic bus tours, traveling all around Japan for a year. This experience gave me the chance to visit many regions and learn how to take care of guests in different travel settings. I can take you on food tours to hidden local bars and restaurants loved by Osakans, or guide you through Japan’s rich history with visits to shrines, temples, and castles. Whether you want to experience Osaka like a local foodie or dive into cultural traditions, I’ll create a tour that’s perfect for you. I’m also a photography enthusiast, so you’ll get some great photos taken by me as a souvenir from our tour! Let’s enjoy Osaka together—just like locals do!
