Singapore Botanic Gardens
This is the most important garden in Singapore, as well as its first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the grounds of the Gardens are several beautifully conserved and repurposed buildings built during the British colonial period. We will tour the National Orchid Garden to catch the beautiful orchids and the last known surviving two-storey Anglo-Malay plantation style bungalow, built in 1868 for the former directors of the Gardens. We will then move on to Gallop Extension to learn more about two colonial houses, Atbara and Inverturret, which have today been repurposed into a forest discovery center and a botanical art gallery.
Dempsey Hill
Dempsey Hill is a tranquil hideaway and well-loved lifestyle destination for the locals and expatriates. It is filled with gourmet grocers, art galleries, antique shops, highly acclaimed restaurants, cafés and wine bars. We will have a quick tour of Dempsey Hill to learn its history, with a quick stop at the St. George's church. You will have some free time to browse the shops, before a light lunch (at your own expense) at one of the many restaurants here.
Bukit Chandu
We will make our way to Pasir Panjang for the black and white bungalow at Bukit Chandu, built at the turn of the 20th century for senior British officers. The building has been restored, its original structure and design, arches and windows have been preserved. Here we will learn more about the battle in Pasir Panjang, just before the British surrendered. Today, this building is a World War II interpretive centre and it houses the exhibition titled "Reflections at Bukit Chandu". After viewing the exhibition, if time permits, we will take a short stroll at the nearby park, along a 280m-long boardwalk through a secondary forest at the canopy level, before making our way back to your hotel at 4pm.
