Ikhaya le Langa NPC unlocks the potential in townships by creating sustainable black spaces, the organization is situated in the Langa Quarter, Langa, South Africa’s first planned township.

10:00

A walking tour of Langa Quarter

The Langa Quarter is the first Social Enterprise Precinct(SEP) in South Africa and has been growing sustainable tourism businesses, underpinned by a cleaner, greener, safer, ‘partnership’ approach. The Langa Quarter is creating multiple employment and business opportunities in a community, which for generations languished at the bottom of the apartheid racialized social order. The Langa Quarter is gaining widespread attention and talks are underway with a number of communities in South Africa and the US who are interested in initiating this replicable SEP model.

10:50

Xhosa traditional food tasting paired with herbal local teas

The South African way of cooking it's absolutely out of this world, as we mix ingredients that one will never think can go together. Xhosa traditional cuisine is one of the South African foods that are full of proteins and vitamins.

11:50

A walking tour of Langa(A walk to Langa Heritage Museum)

"During our divided past, people were subject to laws restricting their freedom of movement and residence. Section 10 of [the] Native Laws Amendment Act, 54 of 1952 required that a black person could only reside in a city like Cape Town if they could prove that they had been born there, lived continuously for fifteen years or more or had continuously worked for the same employer for a period of 10 years or more. A 'pass' was a document required for lawful movement into, out of, or within a specified area; and had to be produced on demand by an authorised person. Failure to produce a pass constituted an offence,"
