We meet you at your hotel and introduce our selves to you and give a briefing about the tour before transporting you to Constitution Hill precinct where tour will first commence .
We first visit Constitution Hill for guided tour which you will learn about this place been operating on its early years as a Fort built by President Paul Kruger in 1893 and then it became a prison where many people early 1900s and later got jailed because of Pass Laws.
We drive through Mandela bridge which is linking Braamfontein to the Johannesburg city center, it was first mooted by Steve Thorne and Gordon Gibson, urban designers, in 1993 in their urban design study of the Inner City of Johannesburg. In their study they named the bridge the Nelson Mandela bridge in recognition of the role Nelson Mandela was having in uniting South African society, and the symbolism of linkage and unity provided by the bridge.
Here will see like European architecture buildings, built during the time when the city got established as many people which some are operating as offices and some are been converted onto modern clothing shops and that is where most youth work .
We stop at Maboneng Precinct for a short walk around and get a feel of this vibrant collection of old manufacturing buildings retrofitted with steel, glass and concrete. These original buildings fitted with welcoming street facing retail, commercial work spaces and artist studios juxtaposed with additions of more unconventional modern architecture rising upwards – making the neighborhood more dense with additional levels of residential loft apartments and double volume penthouses… This is the making of Maboneng.
The renewal of what is now considered a contemporary urban space filled with the character and the charm of the older buildings that were given a second life, bringing the soul and heart of Johannesburg out though a new community of South Africans who now live, work and play in the city.
Before returning back to the hotel we take a visit on this upscale residential area known as Houghton where Nelson Mandela resided after his release from prison in 1990.
