Meeting Point

Old Train Station Arch

- In 1896, a magnificent railway station was built in Lucerne, Switzerland, but a fire in 1971 destroyed it. The only remaining piece is the grand arch that once served as the terminal’s main entrance. Atop the arch stands Zeitgeist, or the “Spirit of Our Times,” a statue by Swiss sculptor Richard Kissling. Today, this historic arch is a landmark in the square in front of the new station, which was completed in 1991.

09:20 AM

KKL Luzern or the Culture and Convention Center

The KKL Luzern is a modern architectural gem by the lake, blending art and music. Its museum features rotating contemporary exhibits from global artists, while the state-of-the-art concert hall hosts orchestras, symphonies, and concerts, making it a cultural hub in Switzerland.

09:40 AM

Kapellbrücke or Chapel Bridge

Lucerne’s most iconic landmark and the oldest wooden bridge in Europe. Part of the city’s medieval fortifications, this gable-roofed bridge is one of Switzerland’s most photographed sites.

In 1993, a fire destroyed much of the timber structure, along with priceless 17th-century paintings that once lined the roof. Of the original 111 hand-painted panels depicting Lucerne’s history, fewer than 30 remain, but they still proudly showcase the city’s rich heritage.

10:00 AM

Church of St. Leodegar

The Church of St. Leodegar (Hofkirche), a key Renaissance church in Switzerland, has a rich history dating back to 735/736. Initially founded as a small monastery, it became a Benedictine collegiate church in 1455/56 after passing through various ownerships, including the Habsburgs.

The church’s treasury contains sacred treasures, such as a 12th/15th-century cross, a chalice from the Battle of Murten (1476), and 17th-18th century relics. The church’s organ, built in 1640, is an impressive 30-tonne instrument with 7,374 pipes, including pipes dating back over 150 years. The “rain machine,” a rotating drum with metal balls, has been fascinating audiences since 1862.

10:20 AM

The Lion of Lucerne

The dying lion of Lucerne was sculpted from the living rock of the cliff and commemorates the Swiss guardsmen who died in 1792 during the French Revolution. T

10:40 AM

Old city

We’ll visit Lucerne’s charming Old Town, which is entirely pedestrian-friendly, allowing us to easily explore its beautiful squares and historic buildings. The Weinmarkt, where in 1332 the citizens of Lucerne swore allegiance to the founding cantons, is a must-see. Originally the fish market, it evolved in 1841 into its current form with the iconic fountain designed by Konrad Lux.

Mühlenplatz, the city’s largest historic square, dates back to the Middle Ages and was once home to mills. Kornmarkt, established in 1370, housed a public trading hall, later becoming the town hall. The Hirschenplatz features ornate houses, now protected as historical monuments.

We’ll also visit Kapellplatz, where the colorful Fritschi Fountain stands as a symbol of Lucerne’s lively carnival traditions, which begin every year on “Schmutziger Thursday.”

11:10 AM

Lake Lucerne

Lake Lucerne, formed 12,000 years ago at the end of the Ice Age, is the fourth largest lake in Switzerland, offering stunning greenish-blue waters perfect for boat tours, paddle boats, and even a unique submarine experience. In 2021, the P-63 submarine became the first licensed for commercial use on Swiss lakes, allowing you to explore ancient shipwrecks and hidden underwater wonders.

During our tour, we’ll see the Millionaire’s Mountain - Bürgenstock, you will enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Pilatus, the Riggi, Wagner’s house, and the Christ statue at Meggen Castle.

If you’re interested in something truly unique, I can arrange a submarine tour for you to explore the lake’s depths and ancient wrecks—just let me know, and I’ll take care of all the details!

About Tour Guide Julia S.

Hi!

My name is Julia, and I’m a private tour guide based in Zurich, Bern, and Lucerne. My journey began when I fell in love with fairy tales as a five-year-old bookworm. I studied cello for 11 years at the same school Oistrakh once attended (I’m originally from Ukraine). While history was my favorite subject and I dreamed of becoming an archaeologist, life led me to graduate in acting and work as a theater actress.

In 2008, I moved to Venice, where I started my career in tourism in 2011, guiding travelers across Italy, France, and Switzerland. By 2015, I had earned my license as a guide in Venice. In 2020, I relocated to Switzerland with my family and continued sharing my love for history, culture, and unforgettable experiences with travelers.

I strive to make every tour both enriching and enjoyable. You won’t be overwhelmed with dates and names—my goal is to share stories that inspire and connect. I hold all certifications required by the Swiss government and am also a certified guide in Venice and Chernihiv, Ukraine.

Please note: I’m not a driver, but I can accompany you in your car or help arrange a professional car and driver for your tour. Feel free to reach out anytime—I’d be delighted to help you plan your perfect Swiss adventure!
