08:30 AM

Meeting Point

Bahnhofplatz, 6003 Luzern

- We will meet in front of the Old Station Arch, the historic stone arch that is the last remaining part of Lucerne’s former railway station. Standing prominently in the station square, it is topped with the sculpture “Zeitgeist,” making it one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. This spot offers a perfect starting point for our visit, and I will give a brief introduction to the city here before we begin the tour.

09:00 AM

Kapellbrücke & Jesuitenkirche Luzern

Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) is Lucerne’s most iconic landmark — a medieval covered wooden bridge over the Reuss River with historic 17th-century paintings suspended under its roof. It was originally built in the 14th century and is one of the oldest wooden bridges in Europe.

Just a short walk from the bridge is the Jesuit Church, Lucerne’s first large Baroque church in Switzerland, featuring ornate interiors and impressive ceilings. The Jesuit Church sits gracefully beside the Reuss and is often paired with a visit to the Chapel Bridge.

10:00 AM

Spreuerbrücke & Lucerne Old Town

Continue on foot to the Spreuer Bridge, another historic covered wooden bridge spanning the Reuss River, notable for its 17th-century “Dance of Death” paintings illustrating medieval life and mortality.

From here, wander through Lucerne’s Old Town (Altstadt) — narrow cobbled streets dotted with fountains, painted facades, shops, and charming squares. This historic center offers a real feel of Lucerne’s medieval roots.

11:00 AM

Lakefront Promenade & Hofkirche / Lucerne Cathedral

Head toward the Lakeside Promenade on Lake Lucerne for scenic views over the water and mountains — a peaceful walk perfect for photos and relaxation. Along the waterfront, enjoy the gentle breeze and watch boats on the lake.

Then visit the Hofkirche St. Leodegar (Church of St. Leodegar), often referred to locally as Lucerne Cathedral, a magnificent Renaissance church with twin towers that dominate the skyline. It’s one of the city’s most important religious buildings, with an interior rich in art and history.

12:00 PM

Lion Monument

Your final stop is the Lion Monument, Lucerne’s poignant rock carving depicting a mortally wounded lion. Created in 1820–21 to honor the Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution, it’s widely regarded as one of Switzerland’s most moving memorials. American author Mark Twain famously described it as “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world."

Ending Point

At Lion Monument, a moving rock carving honoring the Swiss Guards who died in the French Revolution, set in a quiet park.

About Tour Guide Nicola B.

Hi, I’m Nicola!

I’m an art historian, storyteller, and passionate tour guide originally from the charming village of Panzano in Chianti, Tuscany. Since 2013, I’ve been turning my love for art, culture, and beautiful places into unforgettable experiences for travelers. A few years ago, life brought me and my family to Bern, Switzerland — and now I’m lucky enough to call both Tuscany and Switzerland home.

For me, being a guide isn’t just about pointing out landmarks. It’s about sharing joy, connecting with people, and creating meaningful, authentic moments together. Whether we're exploring the medieval streets of Bern, the vineyards of Chianti, or a hidden gem you won’t find in guidebooks, my goal is to help you feel the soul of a place.

I’ve even started my own travel agency to bring these personal, memorable experiences to life — always with a big smile, plenty of stories, and maybe a good glass of wine along the way!

I’d love to show you around and help create memories you’ll carry home with you. See you soon on the road!

Nicola
