Meeting Point

Hotel/Lodge

- We'll pick you up directly from the lobby of your hotel in Moshi at the agreed time. Please wait in the hotel lobby or reception area, ready at the scheduled pickup time. Your guide will meet you there and you'll depart together for Materuni. If your accommodation is outside the Moshi town center, please let us know in advance so we can confirm pickup details.

10:30 AM

Materuni waterfalls

On arrival at Materuni village, you'll be welcomed by your local guide and meet the Chagga community who call these green hillsides home. From here, you'll set off on a guided hike through lush tropical forest, passing banana and coffee plantations with stunning views of the surrounding valleys. The trail winds gently downhill — taking around 45 minutes to 1 hour — until you reach the magnificent Materuni Waterfall, plunging over 80 metres down a sheer cliff into a clear natural pool below. Take in the breathtaking scenery, feel the cool spray of the falls, and if you wish, enjoy a refreshing swim in the chilly mountain water. There's plenty of time to relax, take photos and soak up one of the most beautiful natural spots in the Kilimanjaro region before beginning the walk back.

01:00 PM

Chagga village

After your waterfall hike, you'll return to Materuni village to spend time with a local Chagga family and discover one of Tanzania's oldest traditions — coffee. The Chagga people have farmed these fertile slopes of Kilimanjaro for generations, and here you'll see the whole journey of coffee from bean to cup, done entirely by hand.

You'll start by picking ripe red coffee cherries straight from the plants, then take part in every step of the traditional process — peeling, roasting the beans over an open fire, and grinding them using a wooden mortar and pestle, often accompanied by lively local songs that make the work feel like a celebration. Finally, you'll sit back and savour a freshly brewed cup of pure Kilimanjaro coffee that you helped create — rich, aromatic and unforgettable.

To finish, enjoy a delicious home-cooked Tanzanian lunch prepared by your hosts, sharing authentic local flavours in the warm company of the community. It's a genuine, hands-on cultural experience that gives you a real connection to the land, the people and the way of life in the foothills of Kilimanjaro.

03:00 PM

Materuni Waterfalls

After an unforgettable day of waterfalls, coffee and culture, you'll return to your hotel lobby in Moshi — tired, happy and richer for the experience, with the spirit of Kilimanjaro and its people to take home with you.
