Meeting Point
In front of Great St Mary's
Great St Mary's
I'll meet you in front of Great St Mary's. This is considered to be the centre of Cambridge. The church is closely connected with the foundation of Cambridge University. In front of us will be the Senate House where the students have their graduation ceremony and one of the colleges, Gonville and Caius. We'll discuss the foundation of the university, the relationship between the university and the colleges, student antics involving the Senate House that made the front pages of the newspapers and ...
Senate House Passage/Trinity Hall/The River Cam
We'll see and find out about a rather unusual neoclassical gate along Senate House Passage. Then pass by Trinity Hall, where Stephen Hawking did his PhD and discover why he ended up doing this in Cambridge instead of Oxford. Next have a look at the River Cam and check out what "punting" is.
Trinity College/St John's College/King's College
We'll pass by Trinity where Sir Isaac Newton studied and where there is an apple tree. Is it "the" apple tree? St John's was founded by a rather remarkable woman who founded another Cambridge college and as for King's....well, you won't be able to miss King's College Chapel and you'll hear about some of the feats of the Cambridge Nightclimbers
The Corpus Clock/The Eagle Pub/The Old Cavendish Laboratory
The Corpus Clock-one of the most modern additions to King's Parade (The Must-See Street in Cambridge) described as "both hypnotically beautiful and deeply disturbing". The Eagle pub where Shakespeare "may" have visited but where Crick and Watson "did" go to announce "We have discovered the secret of life" in 1953. And the Old Cavendish perhaps the most important building in Cambridge.
The Old Cavendish Laboratory
This is where we will end the tour.

Tour Important Information
The timing is flexible.
Moderate walking is involved so this should be suitable for most people. It's a good idea to wear comfortable shoes and
bear in mind that the chance of rain can never be entirely ruled out in the UK!
Important message from the supplier
The starting time indicated is more of a suggestion. I am very flexible regarding starting times. I think the best thing is to agree the most suitable time in advance.

About Tour Guide Murray J.
Hello. I’m Murray, a qualified tour guide in Cambridge. Is it a satisfying job? Absolutely! Walking around such an attractive city is always a pleasure (yes, even if it happens to be raining. Well, we are in England!). It’s a perfect job for would-be researchers. I love creating new tours and that means coming up with ideas for topics that people might find interesting, doing the research, organizing the information, and turning it (hopefully) into an intriguing tour. As well as introducing people to the must-see sights, I enjoy the off-the-beaten-path tours and going to places most tour guides don’t go to. I love quirky things and there are plenty of those in Cambridge – like some fascinating public art that most people miss, and perhaps one of the most unusual street musicians anywhere, if we are lucky enough to see him! As well as physical walking tours, I give a number of virtual tours. I think these can be a very nice introduction to Cambridge and I’ve given these to several groups who have then later visited Cambridge and had a walking tour. In my virtual tours I use Google Street View and Powerpoint, which allows me to explore things that I can’t on a walking tour, so, for me, virtual tours can really compliment physical walking tours. In short, I think you’ll be able to tell that I enjoy introducing Cambridge whatever areas you are interested in.

“A fantastic, delightful and detailed trip around the Colleges at Cambridge”
Murray was well prepared with printed material. He was right on time. We spent 3 hours around the Colleges in the central of Cambridge. He knew a lot of facts which made the tour interesting and funny and helped me remember for the lots of information we got. He also had activities for the kids (4 and 7 years old). It was an amazing 3 hours. I would highly recommend to walk around Cambridge with Murray for every kind of group as he is flexible and I'm sure he will organize just the right tour for you! Sophy

Sophy Thank you so much for that lovely review. I really enjoyed the tour, too! I'm sure the next time you visit King's College Chapel the kids will remember the stone dragons and greyhounds. It was also very nice to be part of your family for a short time. Many thanks again Murray
