Itinerary for a Half-Day Tour to The Sun Heliocomplex in Parkent
“Really interesting ”
Very knowledgeable guide, very good English. The heliocomplex itself is fascinating. Built by the Russians about 40 years ago and still being used today for research the array of mirrors can create temperatures of 2000 degree. If you are willing to pay a few dollars more they will use one of the mirrors to set a chunk of wood on fire and burn holes in a steel bar and a brick. The views from the hill behind the mirrors and from the top of the concentrator building are great but require a long uphill walk and climbing many flights of stairs. The stairs are made of steel grates that you can see through which can be a bit disorienting especially if you are uncomfortable with heights. Well worth a trip, and Shovkat is an electrical engineer which makes him the perfect guide for this tour.

“I cannot speak highly enough about Shovkat”
Shovkat was polite, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. It is not surprising given his history that he has an academic’s knowledge of the sites he will take you to. His English is excellent and he studied for a time in London. His German is better, he told me, and Shovkat also speaks Russian. Go with this guide!
