- Drive to GuBeiKo (2.5h)
- Walk from a village to the wall (15 minutes)
- Hike to General Tower (2h)
- Hike to HaoWang Tower (0.5h)
- Hike to 24-window Tower (1h)
- Back to bus (1h)
Gubeikou was a military strong point between the Shanhaiguan Pass and Juyongguan Pass, and the only way to pass through the Liaodong flatland and Inner Mongolia to the central plains of China.
It was an area of strategic military importance, especially during the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Battles to occupy Gubeikou were constant, and, as a result, the military function of the Great Wall became very important.
