Private Tour of UNESCO Dazu Rock Carvings Two Sites in a Combo
With breathtaking religious figures carved into rock cliffs during China's Reconnaissance period, this UNESCO tour tells a powerful story of devotion, culture, and artistic mastery. You could learn the aesthetics and wisdom 1,000 years ago through the crown jewels of China’s religious rock art. These carvings witness the last stop of Buddhism from India to China and its local adaptations. It demonstrates how Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism developed and interacted in 900-1200 AD.

Baodingshan Rock Carvings
It is the highlight of the Dazu Rock Carvings, Baodingshan is the place where you would walk past by Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.
All figures and grotto are well preserved in a U-shaped forested valley. The religious devotions and cultural beliefs are well laid out in line with the landscape, such as hilly height, cliff, drainage.
They together tell a continuous story about religious localization and secular life in 11 century.
About 1.5-2 hours visit, you will learn about the profound historical and cultural stories behind the exquisite grotto arts.
It is about 1km walk and with intense steps.
Beishan Rock Carvings
After 30min drive, we will land in Beishan, another rock carvings project. Less known and smaller in scale than Baodingshan, it still reveals the craftsmanship and religious arts in 9-10 century of China.
It is more artistic and delicate, and thus more abstract than the secular Baodingshan. You will learn how religion, especially Buddhism is spread and adapted into Chinese beliefs through individual presentations of grotto such as the dress, facial expressions, etc of figures.
We will spend around 1 hour exploring the ancient grottoes and feel its unique historical features. The walkway of visit is flat, but we will walk upwards and downwards in intense steps (around 200 staircases).

Sidetrack off beaten path of Chongqing local life and vibe with a local friend in public transport
Beside from being known for monorail and lighted up village that are full of tourists, Chongqing is a city for city explorers and foodies. As an inland third-tier city, it preserves the contrast between 1980s slums and futuristic high-rises which is of interests to westerners; it also preserves more dramatic city topography where locals call home. This tour will lead you away from touristy spots, and through the local and mind-blowing contrast that you can use as food for thought.
