Crane Lake Hakka Residence

Located in Nanlian, Longgang, this 200-year-old site is one of China’s largest square Hakka fortified houses. Built by the Luo Hakka clan in the Qing Dynasty, it features the classic layout of “Nine Halls and Eighteen Wells” integrating housing and defence. Now a Hakka Folk Custom Museum, it displays antique artefacts and showcases Hakka migration, clan traditions and local culture, a key heritage site for learning about Shenzhen’s Hakka history.

Dafen Oil Painting Village

Known as China’s No.1 Oil Painting Village in Buji, Longgang, it is a globally vital hub for oil painting trade. The art industry began here in 1989. Within an area of merely 0.4 square kilometres, there are over 1,200 galleries and studios, supporting more than 20,000 industry practitioners with an annual industrial output of roughly 3 billion RMB. At its peak, 80% of China’s exported decorative oil paintings came from Dafen.
