Jewish and National Socialist history is my main focus as a Berlin Guide. Before Hitler, a third of German Jews lived in Berlin, and their traces are all over the town. We will follow them from the 17th century to the devastating 20th century and contemporary Jewish life in Berlin. On our way, we'll see a lot of famous Berlin monuments. It's easy to fill two days with Jewish history, just ask me! We can also change to a walking tour.
Hotel
A drive to the green outskirts takes us to the Wannsee Conference Villa, where the extermination of European Jews was decided, and Memorial Track 17 for the deportation trains.
Right in the city center, next to Brandenburg Gate, is the impressive Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe, conceived by Peter Eisenman.
In Otto Weidt's Workshop for the Blind Museum, we learn about a huge network for supporting and hiding Jews in the National Socialist dictatorship. Nearby is the New Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Jewish Girls' School and Rosen Street Memorial
We might also visit the Topography of Terror, Schoeneberg Memorials, Daniel Libeskind's astonishing Jewish Museum.
