Drive to Lake Balaton
We drive from Budapest to Lake Balaton, with a journey of approximately 1.5–2 hours, depending on traffic. Often called the “Hungarian Sea,” Lake Balaton is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, stretching nearly 78 km in length. Besides Budapest, it is Hungary’s most visited tourist region, known for its gentle scenery, vineyards, historic lakeside towns, and relaxed atmosphere. The visit offers a scenic and peaceful escape into the heart of Hungarian nature and culture.
Herend Porcelain Manufactory
We visit the world’s largest hand-painted porcelain manufactory, where a knowledgeable local guide introduces the history, craftsmanship, and distinctive techniques behind its world-famous creations. This behind-the-scenes experience offers insight into a unique Hungarian artistic tradition that has been refined over generations.
Porcelánium coffee house
We give you some free time for shopping and invite you for a coffee at the Porcelánium coffee house, where you can drink coffee out of real porcelain cups.
Lake Balaton, Tihany-Peninsula
We continue to the Tihany Peninsula, one of the most scenic areas of Lake Balaton. Guests may optionally visit the nearly 1,000-year-old Benedictine Abbey, home to the tomb of King Andrew I — the only Hungarian royal burial place preserved in its original location. From behind the Abbey, we enjoy a unique panoramic view over the lake.
We then take a short, relaxed walk through the village center, passing charming cafés, restaurants, and folk art shops. Dining is optional and not included; guests may choose to stop at the Echo Restaurant or the Rege Pastry Shop, depending on time and preference.
Balatonfüred
We explore Balatonfüred, Hungary’s oldest spa resort and one of the most elegant towns on Lake Balaton. During a pleasant walk along the harbor and the famous Tagore Promenade, we visit key sights such as the Anna Grand Hotel, the historic venue of the Anna Ball, and the Kossuth Spring, known for its mineral-rich water. This relaxed stroll offers insight into the town’s spa culture, history, and lakeside atmosphere.
Driving back to Budapest
On the return journey to Budapest, it is optional to take the ferry boat from Tihany to Szántód, if guests would like to experience an alternative and scenic way of crossing Lake Balaton. This option depends on availability and guest preference.
Ending Point
Budapest -Drop off can be arranged at your hotel or apartment, a river cruise pier, railway station, or Budapest Airport. Please let us know your preferred meeting location in advance.
