The sole living model of Medieval city, Siena has Etruscan origins; Former Roman colony, later conquered by the Florentines in 1555.
Piazza del Campo, with its scallop-shell shape square, is the core of the city and is the venue for the famous Palio horse race... the history and life of the town. San Gimignano a medieval village (300m above sea level) famous for its towers (only 13 of the 72 towers are still standing today, others are in ruins, but still visible). UNESCO World Heritage site.

San Gimignano
Known as the City of Beautiful Towers – ancient symbols of wealth and power ( or the Manhattan of the Middleages), its historic centre, erected on the ruins of an Etruscan village, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. Among the many things to see, do not miss The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Assunta – formerly a cathedral – that stands in Piazza del Duomo, The Towers (there were 72 during its max splendor, now "only" 13 remain), Piazza della Cisterna, the Medieval Criminal Museum, Church of Sant'Augustine, the Palazzo Comunale and the Pinacoteca….
