This is an overnight trip to Kumano from Wakayama. On the first day, we will walk Kumano Kodo Daimonzaka which is the final and most beautiful part of Kumano Kodo for two hours to visit Kumano Nachi Shrine, Nachisan Seigantoji temple and the Nachi waterfalls. We will stay at Katsuura Hot Spring Resort to enjoy natural hot springs. On the second day, we will visit Kumano Hayatama Shrine and Kamikura shrine to explore Kumano more.

Arashiyama Sagano Bamboo Forest

I from Arashiyama to Sagano, one of the finest spots in Kyoto. In particular the view form Togetsukyo Bridge crossing over Katsura River is very impressive. Arashiyama is populary known for cherry blossoms in spring and beautifully changing colors of autumn leaves in autumn. You can enjoy walking through bamboo forests. They give us a sense of coolness, especially on May and June they grow lushly.　 We visit Otagi and Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple with many small unuque statues.

Kumano is an important part of the World Heritage site “the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountains”. Kumano is in Wakayama Prefecture and I worked for Wakayama Prefectural Government as a general manager of Cultural Heritage Division and I was also in charge of the World Heritage Project. I know this sacred site very well.

On this tour, we will visit Kumano Hongu to walk the Kumano Kodo and to pray at Kumano Hongu Taisha. On the first day, we will visit Kumano Hongu Taisha which is one of the Three Shrines in Kumano and its former site Oyunohara. We will stay overnight at a peaceful hot spring resort which is just next to a beautiful river. This hotel’s main feature is the hot spring on the river bed. On the second day, we will walk to final part of the Kumano Kodo for 3 hours to Kumano Hongu Taisha.
