There is no shortage of routes up Table Mountain – about 35 ranging from unfrequented to popular, and another 50-odd obscure and near-forgotten. These can be mixed and matched into innumerable variations to provide a lifetime of hiking. Routes vary greatly in views, difficulty and terrain: the easiest follows well-defined paths involving minimal scrambling and exposure to heights (narrow ledges); the hardest traverses rugged terrain with lots of scrambling and exposure to heights.
Routes are graded A, B or C. Grades do not reflect physicality or exposure to heights, only technical difficulty. An A-route involves walking only, a B-route some scrambling and a C-route more demanding scrambling, often necessitating rope work. Times are approximate. Costs are for bookings of 2 people. Bookings of 3 or more pay less.
Below are the most popular and classic Table Mountain routes along with a few handpicked alternatives. Many more options exist. For the aficionado, we can customize a hike around your fitness, experience, sense of adventure, preferences and interests.
