I am a government certificated tour guide. I love cooking, eating, meeting new people, discovering new culture, finding fresh seasonal dishes at hidden restaurants and bars! I especially am good at guiding locally popular eateries and restaurants cooking local/fresh ingredients (Fresh seafood, mountain vegetables, locally grown vegetables) into wonderful dishes either traditional Japanese cuisine or great Japanese ingredients with modern flair.
I've traveled around the world twice and visited about 30 countries. When I think of my best memories in my past travel experiences, it's always meeting/ talking with the local people and experiencing new culture. Now, I'm in Japan! This is my time to prepare the wonderful experience to my guests! I'd love to show you around the famous places, as well as hidden gems or bunch of restaurants/bars/places loved by locals. I would be more than happy if I can help you to experience real Japanese life through my guide. I'd love you to have a great stay in Japan:-)
Thanks so much Mika your passion for your beautiful town is very understandable, we could have stayed a week not just 2 nights. We loved spending the day with you, thanks so much for the Japanese lessons the kids have been looking at signs trying to figure out there meaning :)
Hi Kristy, Thank you so much for letting me accompany you! I am pleased that you love this town! Yes! When you come back (maybe for festival!?) please please stay longer! You'll discover lots of hidden beauty in the local's life that might have been lost in big cities. Enjoy finding more Japanese letters that we learned while traveling!
My family and I were on our first trip to Japan, and we wanted to see the contrast of the city life and rural life. Takayama and Shirakawa-go was on our list and since my 6 year old daughter was with us, I wanted to be sure we knew what we were doing and where we were going. Step in Mika-san, one of the nicest and friendliest persons you will ever meet. We were in touch before my trip since I had many questions, which Mika-san always happily answered. We were staying at a hotel and also moving to ryokan on the day of the tour. Mika-san was kind enough to ensure the ryokan knew of our arrivals and went out of her way to help us settle in easily. We met her at the lobby and her smile that greeted us immediately made us feel so welcomed. During the tour she was so prepared with her homework. She had pictures, videos of ceremonies we missed during other seasons, she even had physical charts showing the timeline of Japan's history, so we understand her explanations well when we visited some sites. If you love food, leave it again to Mika-san to recommend! We had an amazing local meal and for me being a foodie, the Hoba Miso Beef was a standout! All I can say is that when you come to Takayama, leave it to Mika-san, relax and enjoy your day!
It was a great experience! Mika picked us up at the hotel and after a short introduction to our tour, we went through the city of Takayama, including some tasty food and ended with a view of a sake brewery (which doesn't offer tours, but Mika booked us in and gave us a tour herself). Thank you from our whole group! We definitely recommend her to everyone looking for a good time in Takayama.
Thank you so much for this great comment, Nicole! Thank you very much for choosing me as your guide in Japan. I'm glad that you enjoyed the morning market and sake brewery tour with tasting! I also enjoyed talking with you!! Hopefully see you when you come back to Japan:-)
