Hello everyone. I am Tetsuji. I worked as a public servant in the local government for 35 years. I belonged to the department of Redevelopment, Town-Landscaping, Preserving historical areas and Architectural Guidance. (I have a national 1st-class architect license.) I devoted myself to revitalizing the city by making plans and improving infrastructure for citizens. Gifu is located in central Japan near Nagoya. As just being the crossroads of the West and the East, there are many unique attractions that are hard to discover in hectic big cities like Tokyo or Kyoto. I had a hand in restoring and preserving some of them throughout my career and want to introduce them to tourists from abroad. That’s why I became a guide-interpreter in Gifu. I also enjoyed traveling around the world. My favorite part of each trip was walking around the city and talking with local residents. Traveling has taught me lots of things during my lifetime. “Fantastic half-day walking tour!”
Lily has been a wonderful guide on our half-day tour of Takayama, explaining history, culture and interesting anecdotes at different places of attraction. She was always happy to answer our questions.She had the tour well-planned yet accommodated any deviations to the plan e.g when we wanted to take a detour. She also offered to take a lot of photos for us. At the end of the tour, she even gifted us a handmade good luck charm. Anyone would have a great time with her has a local guide. “Informative and personable ”
Mao was an absolute delight, such a kind person it was more like a friend showing you around their home town, than somebody we had just met. My partner and I spent 24 hours in Takayama and had booked Mao’s tour for as soon as we arrived, allowing us to get an understanding of the town before we ventured off on our own. Her tour was informative and personable, and we enjoyed exchanging stories of each other’s cultures. By the end of the tour we felt very familiar with the area, but not like we had seen everything Takayama had to offer and Mao was kind enough to give us suggestions for other great spots to visit. We would 100% recommend Mao as a guide and look forward to visiting her and Takayama again soon!

Thank you Bonnie we had an amazing day with you. Your knowledge of the Takayama and Shirakawago area was fantastic and we loved walking the streets of Takayama and sampling the wonderful foods. Thank you for your generosity arranging our bus to Shirakawago. You were so kind to also help us with our JR tickets for our trip to Kyoto. I would definitely recommend you take this tour with Bonnie- you will never come across another town like Shirakawago in your life!! And Takayama is an amazing town with hardly any crowds!
