I've been a writer, researcher and critical historian all my life, and I've been a Londoner since the 1960s, although I've left to live in other towns and countries. Author of Sex at the Margins: Migration, Labour Markets and the Rescue Industry, for many years I've focused on getting the stories out of women and others marginalised because of being poor, foreign, ‘different’ or doing jobs some folks think are Wrong, in the present and in the past. Hi, my name is Kemal (English name : Kevin). I'm a, professional photographer, tour guide and whisky enthusiast. I'll be happy to help you for specialist tours in London and the UK. In college I studied law but decided to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a photographer and started my professional career in 1993. I was granted a professional tour guide badge in Istanbul, Turkey in 1996 after a vigorous training by the Ministry of Tourism. I spent my last 30 years working for top magazines and taking people around the World with private and group photography tours. My work has been published globally by well-known magazines including National Geographic, Geo, Cosmopolitan, Reader's Digest, Atlas etc. and my photographs were exhibited internationally. Anthropology Museum of Wichita State University in Kansas holds a permanent exhibition of my work on the last remaining Kurdish Nomads of Eastern Turkey. My prints are sold regularly through art galleries, Gallery The Route in Amsterdam is the main gallery that I'm working with. I was the Deputy Editor of the Turkish Edition of National Geographic Magazine from 2000 to 2011. I did my first photo tour in 2007 and I loved it so much I went on doing it on weekends and holidays while working at the magazine. At one point I left my full-time position at NatGeo in order of doing more photography tours & workshops. Since then I've done hundreds of photography tours all around the World including in the Middle East, Latin America, Asia, Europe and Africa. I also did birdwatching, food and whisky tours as they were all, things that I personally enjoy and wanted to share my experience with my clients. In my photo tours / workshops my focus is teaching the practice and instinctual behaviour of a pro photographer and trying to catch the things as they happen, I never do any set-ups or stage the photos. I am a Blue Badge Guide, qualified with the Scottish Tourist Guides Association to guide throughout Scotland. After thirty four years working for a large Scottish law firm and a further four in the wilderness I think I’ve finally found my calling… an opportunity to show visitors my country while telling stories, sometimes tall, while hopefully being educational and entertaining. I was born and brought up in Edinburgh and have lived in Scotland all my life with the exception of a three year period when I went East to experience another culture. I am of course biased towards what Edinburgh has to offer (it is the greatest city in the world) but acknowledge the depth of history and attraction of our other cities and of course the beauty of our islands, countryside and waterways. Hello. I’m Murray, a qualified tour guide in Cambridge. Is it a satisfying job? Absolutely! Walking around such an attractive city is always a pleasure (yes, even if it happens to be raining. Well, we are in England!). It’s a perfect job for would-be researchers. I love creating new tours and that means coming up with ideas for topics that people might find interesting, doing the research, organizing the information, and turning it (hopefully) into an intriguing tour. As well as introducing people to the must-see sights, I enjoy the off-the-beaten-path tours and going to places most tour guides don’t go to. I love quirky things and there are plenty of those in Cambridge – like some fascinating public art that most people miss, and perhaps one of the most unusual street musicians anywhere, if we are lucky enough to see him! As well as physical walking tours, I give a number of virtual tours. I think these can be a very nice introduction to Cambridge and I’ve given these to several groups who have then later visited Cambridge and had a walking tour. In my virtual tours I use Google Street View and Powerpoint, which allows me to explore things that I can’t on a walking tour, so, for me, virtual tours can really compliment physical walking tours. In short, I think you’ll be able to tell that I enjoy introducing Cambridge whatever areas you are interested in.

“Nice but not up to expectations ”
Pleasant but not the level of l knowledge or expertise we hoped for. We had expected a guide with a deeper passion for and knowledge of English nautical history. We learned more for overhearing other guides then from Andy.

The level of expertise that you expected could only realistically be obtained from a museum curator / expert; something that I never claim to be. The full-time staff located on the specific ships have an encyclopaedic knowledge, and therefore they would know the more obscure facts like how Nelson liked to dry his feet on the rugs in his cabin. I hope that your head has recovered from the low decks on HMS Victory. Have a lovely rest of your stay in England. Best wishes, Andrew

I went on the CS Lewis tour and it was a great experience. Would highly recommend taking any tour with this guide, as he is very knowledgeable and conversational! My only regret is that I only had time to do one tour!
