Mutianyu Great Wall

The history of Mutianyu Great Wall can be traced back to the Northern Qi Dynasty's Great Wall. At that time, a large-scale renovation of the Great Wall defense system was carried out here to resist the northern nomadic tribes. After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang (founding emperor of Ming Dynasty) sent the General Xu Da to set up defense between Juyongguan and Gubeikou. Therefore, a new Great Wall was built on the site of the Northern Qi Dynasty's Great Wall. In the second year of the Yongle reign, the pass was named Mutianyu Pass. During the Ming Dynasty, General Qi Jiguang and others reinforced the Mutianyu Great Wall many times while guarding the capital. Due to its important strategic position and multiple repairs, Mutianyu Great Wall has become one of the most well-preserved parts of the Ming Great Wall. Since the establishment of the People's Republic of China, it has now become a representative section of the Great Wall in the Beijing area.
