Meeting Point
Your Hotel
- Door-to-door pickup at hotels within the Third Ring Road of Beijing (Hotels outside the Third Ring Road will gather at the entrance of the east gate of the Temple of Heaven.) The Temple of Heaven was a place for emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to worship the heavens, pray for valleys, and pray for rain. It is the largest surviving ancient sacrificial architecture complex in the world. Walking on the Temple of Heaven, it seems like one can understand the order between people and heaven, people and all things, and people and people in Chinese culture. That is a kind of tolerance of "harmony in diversity", a wisdom of "unity of heaven and man", and a civilization code that spans over 600 years and still echoes endlessly. This ancient building still tells the world the wisdom and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization.
Lama temple
The Yonghe Palace Tibetan Buddhist Art Museum is the largest and best preserved Lamaist Huangjiao temple in mainland China.
The formation of the Yonghe Palace architectural complex spans across the history of the Qing Dynasty, spanning three emperors: Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong, and experiencing three periods of royal residences, palaces, and temples; To this day, the architectural history spans 332 years (1694-2026) and has distinctive features of Han, Manchu, Mongolian, and Tibetan ethnic groups.
The Confucian temple
As its name suggests, the temple enshrines Confucius, an ancient Chinese thinker, educator and cultural colossus of worldwide prestige. It commenced in the 6th Year (1302) of Yuan’s Dade Reign and ended in the 10th Year (1306). In the 9th Year (1530) of Jiajing reign of the Ming dynasty, the Chongshengci (Shrine of Sage Worship) was erected to worship five generations of the Clan, in particular Confucius himself. Later Dachengdian (Hall of Great Achievement) got expanded when it came to the 32nd Year (1906) of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty. From then on, the temple has taken on a present look. For more than 700 years, it witnessed to how the rulers in the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped Confucius, preached Confucian teaching and spread the literary tradition. In this way, it grew into a sanctuary in the hearts of all feudal scholars.
Guozijian
Guozijian was the highest institution of learning and educational administrative management established by the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Its other name is Taixue, which was born in conjunction with the imperial examination system. The Imperial Academy also witnessed the emergence, development, and demise of the imperial examination system. The values and spirit contained in the Imperial Academy and the imperial examination system are a huge cultural wealth for China and even the world.
Hutong
The hutongs in Beijing are not only the veins of the city and the thoroughfares of transportation, but also the places where ordinary people in Beijing live and an important stage for the historical and cultural development and evolution of the capital. It records the changes of history, the style of the times, and contains a strong cultural atmosphere, like museums of folk customs, leaving marks on people's various social lives. Strolling through it, there are famous historical sites everywhere, and savoring it carefully is like an encyclopedia of Beijing. Many bricks and tiles in the hutongs have a history of hundreds of years. From the alleys and courtyards of various sizes, one can learn about the lives of Beijing citizens, including their lifestyle, interests, and neighborhood relationships.
