Al-Ashmunen
Al Ashmunein, situated on the west bank of the Nile, was a significant city in ancient times. It was the capital of the old kingdom and later became a major city during the Roman period. It also served as an early Christian center. The town, known as Khmunw in Pharaonic times, was a cult center of Thoth, the god of wisdom, healing, and writing. The Temple of Thoth, built by Horemheb and Rameses II, features a great pylon and a limestone sanctuary of Amun nearby. The site also contains well-constructed mudbrick houses dating to the Third Intermediate Period.
Tuna el-Gebel
Tuna el-Gebel was the necropolis of Khmun. It is the largest known Greco-Roman necropolis in Egypt, dating from the New Kingdom to the Roman Period, and seeing heavy use in the Ptolemaic Period. Tuna el-Gebel is located in Al Minya Governorate in Middle Egypt.
Tall El-Amarna
Amarna is an extensive ancient Egyptian archaeological site containing the remains of what was the capital city during the late Eighteenth Dynasty.
