Visit to the former Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp
Visiting the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp means learning about one of the most significant institutions within the Nazi system of terror. During this tour, we will gain an understanding of the concentration camp system, the significance of Tower A within the camp’s hierarchy, and the day-to-day lives of the prisoners and their working conditions. At Sachsenhausen’s Station Z, we will come to understand what death meant and how it was planned and executed from 1942 onwards.

Meeting Point
Hotel or place of accommodation
- After collecting the group from their accommodation, we will travel by train to the town of Oranienburg, where the concentration camp is located.
Sachsenhausen Memorial's Visitor Centre
At the memorial’s visitor centre, we will begin our tour of the most important site of National Socialism, designed in 1936 and built whilst the Berlin Olympic Games were taking place.
Tower A
Tower A was the entrance to the camp and became a symbol of control and of what is known as ‘architecture of terror’.
Jewish camp
Due to the mass deportation of Jews to concentration camps from 1938 onwards, Sachsenhausen had to be expanded with 18 additional barracks. Here we will learn about the prisoners’ daily lives, their routines, timetables and living conditions.
Prisoner's kitchen
The central museum of the Sachsenhausen Memorial is housed in the former prisoners’ kitchens. Through photographs and original artefacts, the exhibition provides a comprehensive and detailed insight into the running of the camp, its systems of punishment and execution, and its development up to its liberation in 1945.
Station Z
We will end the tour at Station Z, where the execution pit and the extermination centre were located. Here, we will explore how death dehumanised and became systematised from 1942 onwards, and what consequences the Holocaust brought from 1945 onwards.
Ending Point
Berlin or the place agreed with the group.
