From the late 17th century right up to modern-day Berlin, this tour will give us an insight into the history of Berlin’s Jewish community and its cultural and social development. Meeting Point
Hackescher Markt
XVIII. Allí será donde tendrá lugar nuestro recorrido.
Hackesche Höfe
The Hackescher Höfe are Germany’s largest complex of inner courtyards. Originally designed as housing for the working class following the Industrial Revolution, today they are a mix of leisure venues, art spaces and the alternative scene.
Old jewish cemetery
This Jewish cemetery was one of the first institutions established by the community in Berlin. Raided by the Gestapo in the 1940s, it is now a place of remembrance that serves to remind us of how the persecution and deportation of Jews from Berlin unfolded.
New synagogue
It is almost certainly one of the most beautiful and striking buildings in the city. Built in 1866, this synagogue symbolises the new social status of Berlin’s Jewish community. Situated on the neighbourhood’s main street – Oranienburgerstrasse – the damage to the synagogue bears witness to the attack it suffered during the Night of Broken Glass in 1938.
