CHANDNI CHOWK - OLD DELHI & LUNCH
Old Delhi, popularily called Chandni Chowk because of its half-moon-shaped square, adorned with trees, canals, and pools. It stretched 40 yards wide and 1,520 yards long. The name “Chandni Chowk” translates to “Moonlight Square,” a nod to the moon’s reflection on a large pool that once graced the area. The Mughal royal processions paraded through these streets, adding prestige and grandeur. Princess Jahanara Begum, Shah Jahan’s favourite daughter, designed and established this bustling market in 1650 CE. Silver merchants thrived here, contributing to the moniker “Silver Street.”
After walk and rickshaw ride across to this charismatic market to explore its old Havelis (Mansion), Asia’s largest spice market Khari Baoli, traversing through bylanes of vibrant Kinari bazaar we indulge our taste buds to its famous street food for lunch.
DILLI HAAT
After good meal, now its time for some shopping and exploring Delhi's most visited Dilli Haat that reflects India’s folk and rural heritage. An open space market, it has crafts persons putting up their goods from each state of India with India’s artistic and culinary treasures spread around. In season, there are surprise cultural performances from folk artists of India.
You can continue exploring Dilli Haat till late evening as sometimes they have cultural dance performances in the evening. This can only be known near to the date/s.
