Exit Gate no 4 of “Jama Masjid” Metro Station.
- It is a Metro Train station (subway), named "Jama Masjid" and at its exit gate no 4, we all meet
Meet me outside Gate no 1 of "Lal Quila" Metro Station. Get briefed about the antiquity of the Old Delhi first. Soon we hop on a bicycle rickshaw and start towards "Khari Baoli" OR the spice market.
We now leave the bicycle rickshaw after reaching the Spice Market. This largest Spice market of Asia has been Functioning Since "Mughal era" and hides a bundle of many surprises. This fascinating rustic market is a star attraction among tourists and local shoppes alike. We soon enter one of the famous and old Spice depot / storehouse for a briefing about many famed Indian spices. You will be surprised to know that, in your home country how heavily you are paying for some of daily usage spices in your kitchen. Over here you can grab them at dirt cheap prices. A small pouch of spice is given to you as return gift for visiting the storehouse. Also if you want to grab more spices then ample time is given to you to know more from the expert and buy accordingly. While leaving, the smell of spices is something that your nostrils will never forget.
The Chandni Chowk (Moonlight Square) is one of the oldest and busiest markets in Old Delhi, India. We shall taste few local snacks and mouthwatering delicacies of Old Delhi. Whole Chandni Chowk market hub was was built in the 17th century by Mughal Emperor of India Shah Jahan and designed by his daughter Jahanara. The market was once divided by canals (now closed) to reflect moonlight and remains one of India's largest wholesale markets.
We shall stop briefly for having a local refreshing drink known as "Shikanji" made up of Lemon, sugar, and herbs. Then we enter a road that houses Delhi's largest book shops and also famous Indian "Saree" dress. Watch the glittering colorful market and the booksellers facing locusts of Students thronging the area to grab the books of their curriculum. Soon the view of the grand Mosque "Jama mosque " will appear. We then finally head back towards the parking lot in an bicycle rickshaw.
