“A Day out in Nature”

Reiko was waiting for us at the ship pier with a warm smile on a glorious sunny morning. She took us in her car to the Crane reserve where we saw these beautiful birds and on to a walk through the wetlands where we encountered several deer - but luckily no bears! Shel described the creation of the wetlands and told us about the wildlife, including bears which we didn't know inhabited this region. She then took us to the Kushiro fish market and helped us make a sashimi rice bowl, selecting from the wide variety of fish and seafood on offer. Delicious! When the vending machine did not have any non-sugar beverages she kindly went to a nearby store to get us Coke Zero. We ended our day with another view of the wetlands and the river. Reiko was delightful to be with, conversation flowed easily.. And she surprised us with a gift of beautiful origami cranes and stunning earrings of cranes that she had crafted herself. They will be a treasured memory of Kushiro and Reiko.

Because of the other tour after that I am sorry for the late replay to Marilyn’s review which is way beyond my expectations. I am so flattered! Marilyn’s couple were so knowledgeable on many places of the world and of course Japanese and our culture as they are experts on traveling. Although they have traveled a lot, they are very smart not wasting money but earned and saved enough money so that they can enjoy traveling around the world after their retirement, that’s how they enjoy their life now. I was so amazed to know they well in exercise in their home gym. to be able to go on traveling and Ihe is a deep philosopher practicing meditation every day. With this nice couple I was so happy to be able to share great time on the tour

“Fantastic tour”

We had a wonderful time on our tour. We were able to custom make a tour to see the things we wanted and the guide was so lovely and knowledgeable. Definite highlights were seeing the Tancho in 2 places and also the long tailed twits. Highly recommended.

Bridget and her company were all so friendly and nice guests. They are very interested in seeing Tancho cranes and other wildlife to be seen only here and also our culture which made me really happy!

“Amazing Full Day Winter Tour!”

Reiko was the perfect guide to hire for a full day tour in Kushiro! I did my research and decided to go with Reiko because her tour was customized to what I wanted to do/see and offered experiences that bigger tours did not offer. I also liked the early start time of 5:30am to see the red crowned cranes wake up from their slumber from the Otowa bridge (something bigger tours don’t get to do). As a local, she knew spots most tourists would have never found on their own. We got to see the SL train, which only operates in January and February. It was much cooler in person than I thought it would be! I really wanted to see a fox in the wild, so when we saw one at the end of the day on the road back she even offered to back up and turn the car around so I could get a good photo! The whole day was filled with great photo ops of the nature and wildlife, which I came to Kushiro to see - red crowned cranes, Shima-enaga Hokkaido snow fairy, Ezo sika deer, Steller’s sea eagle, white-tailed eagle, Ezo red fox etc. If you are considering a tour guide, you will not be disappointed with Reiko!

Risa is amazing friendly nice guest. She really love nature. We started from star gazing even though she arrived here after long flights from NY and not much time to rest before the early morning Tancho cranes and other wildlife tours, she was so energetic and filled with passion for those. I’m so happy she enjoyed our great nature
