Tancho Crane Reserve
Once believed to be extinct, beautiful Japanese Tancho Cranes inhabit in Kushiro Marshland all through the year but you cannnot see them very often in April to August because they live deeper part in the marsh land to raise chicks. In fall you could see them fly over us and dance in winter. So the Crane Reserve, which is with the aim of to protect and propagate cranes, is the only place to see them all year around. You will learn their ecology and biology
Short Trekking in Kushiro Marshland National Park
@Onnnenai Visitor center you will enjoy wooded boardwalk trekking in the Kushiro Marshland National Park, feeling really relaxed and refreshed with the air purified by the flora there. This park is the habitat for about 2000 kinds of flora and fauna, some of them are survivors from the last ice age. Take a deep breath fresh air fully in your body and you will live as long as them!

“Amazing Full Day Winter Tour!”
Reiko was the perfect guide to hire for a full day tour in Kushiro! I did my research and decided to go with Reiko because her tour was customized to what I wanted to do/see and offered experiences that bigger tours did not offer. I also liked the early start time of 5:30am to see the red crowned cranes wake up from their slumber from the Otowa bridge (something bigger tours don’t get to do). As a local, she knew spots most tourists would have never found on their own. We got to see the SL train, which only operates in January and February. It was much cooler in person than I thought it would be! I really wanted to see a fox in the wild, so when we saw one at the end of the day on the road back she even offered to back up and turn the car around so I could get a good photo! The whole day was filled with great photo ops of the nature and wildlife, which I came to Kushiro to see - red crowned cranes, Shima-enaga Hokkaido snow fairy, Ezo sika deer, Steller’s sea eagle, white-tailed eagle, Ezo red fox etc. If you are considering a tour guide, you will not be disappointed with Reiko!

Zhixian and his wife were both really nice and friendly guests. They might have felt cold during the tour because they are from warm country and not used to our cold whether in Kushiro, Hokkaido. But they were brave and patient for coldness. I am so happy to know they enjoyed encountering wildlife and other experiences here.

Half day tour of Biei from Asahikawa
Starting from Asahikawa Station, you can visit Patch work RD, take some pictures of Seven-star tree, Ken & Mary tree. Next drive to Blue pond. Take a little walk and enjoy the magnificent view.
