Let's enjoy a morning walk through central Nagoya. Starting at the post-war Hisaya-Odori park, with It's famous TV tower and recently revamped shopping and eating area, and continuing to historic Nagoya Castle. The castle was the seat of Tokugawa Ieyasu and also one inspiration for a famous novel. We then continue to Nagoya Station via streets which routes haven't changed for 400 years. We will conclude the tour with a view from the top of one of Nagoya's newest buildings.

Meeting Point
Nagoya Station Tourist Information Bureau, your hotel's lobby if centrally located or Nagoya Cruise Port..
- Let's meet at Nagoya Station. If your hotel is near either Nagoya Station or located in central Nagoya I can meet you in the lobby. I would also be happy to meet you at Nagoya Cruise Port.
Hisaya-Odori Park
After taking the subway to Sakae we will walk north through the long park that will take us to Nagoya Castle. We will see the famous TV tower (which has come to a sticky end in a couple of Godzilla movies). Recently the precinct below the tower has been revamped into a upscale shopping and eating area. The park is popular with office workers who relax here during lunch or partake in free exercise classes.
Nagoya Castle
The original castle was completed over four hundred years ago. As the seat of Tokugawa Ieyasu it played a central role in the stabilization of Japan leading to the creation of the modern state. It was here that Tokugawa Ieyasu bestowed the title of retainer on the Englishman William Adams. Adams was the first Westerner to become a samurai and his life provided James Clavell with inspiration for his novel ‘Shogun’. I will do my best to tell as much as I can about this areas interesting history.
Walk to Nagoya Station following old route.
From the castle let's return to the station following streets which routes haven't changed since the construction of the castle itself. If you wish we could check out the well known Minochu confectionery shop along the way.
Midland Sky Promenade
The view from the top of the Midland Square building is spectacular. It's a great place to get an overall idea of the city.

Hello everyone!
Many thanks for checking out my profile. I'm originally from New Zealand but have spent my adult life here in Japan. The Nagoya area has been my home since the early nineties. I have witnessed the region's transformation from a sleepy industrial city to the vibrant metropolis of today. I would love the opportunity to tell you about some of my adventures and also a few of the outstanding people I've met.
I spent many years practicing karate and have also developed a deep interest in Buddhism. I speak Japanese confidently.
I'm new to GoWithGuide but have previous experience giving walking tours. To be able to introduce you to a few of my favourite Nagoya suburbs would be a treat. There are fascinating, historic temples as well as a stupa that purportedly contains a portion of the Buddha's ashes. Also, there are numerous tempting eateries and a few quirky shops. I prefer guiding guests around these less visited areas as you can get a feel for how the locals live.
I look forward to meeting you soon.

“Fascinating and enjoyable day in Nagoya”
Had a great day with Noel, felt like being shown around by a friend. Noel took the time to find out about where we are from before we arrived and conversation flowed all day. Noel took us to neighbourhoods off the tourist track to see what felt like real Japanese life, unique shrines, temples and gardens. He had a great knowledge of local history and religion. Fabulous day, would highly recommend Noel if youre in town. Thank you Noel.

“Off the beaten path”
We had an awesome day exploring some hidden gems with Noel. The giant green Buddha was definitely a highlight. It was also great to learn the day to day life of an ex Kiwi lining in Japan. A lot was packed in to the tour time, but lots of photo and question opportunities. Many thanks!
