I belonged to the department of Redevelopment, Town-Landscaping, Preserving historical areas and Architectural Guidance. (I have a national 1st-class architect license.) I devoted myself to revitalizing the city by making plans and improving infrastructure for citizens. Gifu is located in central Japan near Nagoya. As just being the crossroads of the West and the East, there are many unique attractions that are hard to discover in hectic big cities like Tokyo or Kyoto. I had a hand in restoring and preserving some of them throughout my career and want to introduce them to tourists from abroad. That’s why I became a guide-interpreter in Gifu. I also enjoyed traveling around the world. My favorite part of each trip was walking around the city and talking with local residents. Traveling has taught me lots of things during my lifetime. I have witnessed the region's transformation from a sleepy industrial city to the vibrant metropolis of today. I spent many years practicing karate and have also developed a deep interest in Buddhism. I speak Japanese confidently. I'm new to GoWithGuide but have previous experience giving walking tours. To be able to introduce you to a few of my favourite Nagoya suburbs would be a treat. There are fascinating, historic temples as well as a stupa that purportedly contains a portion of the Buddha's ashes. Also, there are numerous tempting eateries and a few quirky shops. Nagoya Castle has been called a masterpiece of Edo-period architecture. After the castle, we'll pass through Endo-Ji shopping arcade, established in 1612.

Nagoya city is well known for it's tasty local dishes. Red miso is the go to flavor for many dishes like miso katsu, doteni and doteyaki, miso nikomi udon, and of course, miso soup. Also, there are many local izakaiyas and yakitori (grilled chicken) shops all over the city. Personally, I am most familiar with the Osu-Kannon and Nagoya station areas. Not a fan of large chain shops, so I will show you the truly local shops.

Nagoya city is well known for it's tasty local dishes. Red miso is the go to flavor for many dishes like miso katsu, doteni and doteyaki, miso nikomi udon, and of course, miso soup. Also, there are many local izakaiyas and yakitori (grilled chicken) shops all over the city. Personally, I am most familiar with the Osu-Kannon and Nagoya station areas. Not a fan of large chain shops, so I will show you the truly local shops.

We had the pleasure of touring Nagoya with Tommie. She promptly met us at the cruise terminal. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Whether we were walking through ancient shrines and temples or navigating bustling markets (she found the best spot for ceramic kitchen goods!) or discovering gems off the beaten path (the most peaceful and delicious tea house and garden) she shared insights and stories that brought life to each moment. She was also particularly attentive and flexible, tailoring the experience to our pace and interests, always making sure we were comfortable and engaged. Saki was very easy to work with even though getting Ghibli tickets is close to impossible. She met us inside the train station and she arranged for additional transportation for us. She is charming and lovely and speaks English, Spanish and Japanese! Amazing experience!

“Fascinating and enjoyable day in Nagoya”

Had a great day with Noel, felt like being shown around by a friend. Noel took the time to find out about where we are from before we arrived and conversation flowed all day. Noel took us to neighbourhoods off the tourist track to see what felt like real Japanese life, unique shrines, temples and gardens. He had a great knowledge of local history and religion.
