About Tour Guide Takuma A.

Hi it’s Tak (just like “Tak talks”), and I’m a Tokyo city guide as well as a nature guide in Hinohara village aka Hinohara-mura in Tokyo

I lived in the U.S. for 10 years and graduated from University of Oregon. Taking people from different backgrounds around the metropolitan area and national park in Tokyo are some of the most fun things in my life, and yes Hinohara village is a part of the national park in Tokyo, an hour and a half from the central city of Tokyo!

I sometimes take my customers to places that are outside Tokyo, such as Nikko-Toshogu, Odawara, Atami, Hakone, etc.

I would love to share the historical context and how it related to the culture and our current lives with you all :)

Come to have a blast time with me by feeling seasonal peaks of Tokyo, culture, and warm hearted people in Japan!!!

Important

You need to make a reservation at least 7 days prior to the tour, “TOKYO Seasonal Peaks Discovery” in order to process your insurance.

Unforgettable! A Must-Use Guide for Exploring Mount Mitou in Hinohara

I recently embarked on a magnificent adventure to Mount Mitou in Hinohara, and I owe much of the experience to the outstanding guide I picked for the trip. Tak was incredibly informative, providing detailed insights into the local flora, fauna, and geological features of the region. From the very beginning, he set a positive tone, offering a warm welcome and an overview of what to expect on the hike. One of the highlights was discovering hidden viewpoints and picturesque spots along the way, all thanks to his intimate knowledge of the area. The educational snippets about the history and culture of Hinohara added a rich layer to the experience, transforming a simple hike into an immersive journey. Safety was clearly a priority, he frequently checked on me and provided helpful tips for navigating tricky areas. The pacing was perfect, allowing me to soak in the beauty around us without feeling rushed. I highly recommend this guide to anyone looking to explore Hinohara – it's an experience you won’t want to miss!

Amazing adventure in Hinohara!

Myself and my husband were staying in Shinjuku in Tokyo for a week and wanted a day away from the busy city. For a short travel time away, Hinohara was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful! Tak was very friendly and took us to stunning waterfalls, mountain views, shrines, a local onsen and restaurant. All of this we would never have been able to find ourselves. The onsen was very relaxing after some refreshing waterfall meditation! The traditional restaurant we went to was also one our favourite places to eat for the whole holiday! Tak knew many of the local people which was helpful and his english was very good - he managed well with our awkward northern accents! I strongly recommend getting a local guide if you want to explore and develop understanding of Japanese culture and local life as well as just visiting the main tourist sites. I cannot emphasise enough how friendly and knowledgable Tak was. He really helped us to make such special memories and the most of our time during our short trip to the national park! We would love to explore more of the Japanese countryside and would definitely have Tak as our guide again. Thank you Tak!!

Hello! My name is Ken (Kenichi), and I’m a professional tour guide with experience guiding over 1,500 foreign tourists as of February 2025. I have worked for both Japanese and international companies in Tokyo for over 30 years, giving me deep insight into the city and its unique charm. I also love traveling and have explored many famous destinations in Japan as well as in 40+ countries worldwide. I fully understand the challenges that many first-time travelers face when visiting Japan, especially in a busy city like Tokyo. For added comfort and luxury, I offer the option of using a car with an experienced driver (my wife), making your tour even more convenient and stress-free. I look forward to guiding you and helping make your visit to Japan truly memorable.

*Bookings for cherry blossom season are full; if the date on the calendar is greyed out I am not available* Hello! My name is Grant, and I’ve spent over a decade living and exploring Japan. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, I first came to Japan as a high school exchange student in Inuyama, a historic castle town in Aichi. My love for Japan began early—sparked by childhood games like Pokémon that were released in Japanese before English. This passion led me to pass the N2 Japanese Language Proficiency Test in 2018, study at language schools across Japan, and graduate from the Japan Visual Media Translation Academy. I’ve traveled to every prefecture in Japan, often using unlimited rail passes to explore castles, historic sites, and regional specialties. I hold a degree in Asian Studies from a Tokyo university, and my extensive experience living in Tokyo has made me an expert on the city’s transportation system, hidden gems, and affordable eats. With over 30 visits to Kyoto, I have deep knowledge of its historical sites and the broader cultural landscape of Japan. I studied at Japanese language school in Kyoto. I visited all the world heritage sites in Kyoto and have a lot of knowledge on the history of Japan. I can provide tours of Kyoto or places outside of Tokyo for an additional transportation fee. Tour options: Half-Day Tour: 20,000 yen (4 hours) Full-Day Tour: 40,000 yen (8 hours) Full-Day Tour Outside of Tokyo: 40,000 yen plus transportation expense
