Hands-on Yakisugi Experience — The Beauty of Burnt Wood
Experience Yakisugi, the traditional Japanese technique of preserving wood by fire. Using locally sourced wood (mainly Japanese larch), you’ll craft a small, lightweight card stand by burning, brushing, and oiling it. Guided by me and a skilled carpenter, no experience is needed — all tools and protective gear, including overalls and gloves, are provided. Walking pick-up is available; streetcar fare is extra. Take home your handmade card stand, a perfect souvenir of authentic craftsmanship.

Hi Andrew, Thank you very much for your truly heartwarming and wonderful review. I’m deeply grateful for your kind words! I’m truly flattered. You kindly shared in advance all the things you were interested in and wanted to learn about, which helped me greatly in planning the tour. I really appreciated that. I also truly enjoyed hearing about the current situation in the UK. It was fascinating for me as well, and I had a wonderful time spending the morning with you. When someone speaks kindly about Hakodate, that means a lot to me. Although your visit was short, I sincerely appreciate that you chose to stop in Hakodate. Next time, I hope you can stay longer. I would love to show you even more of the charms of this beautiful city that we didn’t have time to see. I look forward to welcoming you again someday! Warm regards, Bobby

I am an American male bi-lingual (English & Japanese)tour guide based/living in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. I have lived here several decades and I very familiar with the best places to see in Sapporo and outside of Sapporo/ other areas of Hokkaido. I can take you to the standard/well known sightseeing spots as well as "off the beaten path spots" that many overseas guests are unaware of. My tours are fun, on schedule, informative and transportation-wise very timely and smooth. Less time commuting and more time at location enjoying each point of interest. I have many years experience guiding tours in Sapporo and out to other areas of Hokkaido as well. Most of my tours are 1 day tours usually starting at 8 or 9a.m. and concluding at 6p.m. I basically use public transportation(buses, JR trains, and subways). I do own my own personal car and for guided tours with only 1 guest or small groups 2-3 guests, my private car is available for use. Meet up locations is usually at Sapporo Station in the morning but I can arrrange to meet you in the lobby of your hotel if requested. I look forward to guiding you here in Sapporo and throughout Hokkaido. Tour guide Scott. Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
