08:30 AM

Meeting Point

Hotel Lobby or Cruise Port (Galataport)

- My Note to You: I will meet you right at your hotel lobby or cruise terminal exit. We’ll skip the morning traffic by hopping onto the modern Golden Horn tram, heading straight to the historic Ayvansaray waterfront like true insiders.

09:20 AM

The Miracle of Blachernae (Panagia Blachernae Church)

We start our walk right inside the ancient land walls at one of the most sacred Eastern Orthodox shrines in the world. I’ll share the mystical story of the "Holy Robe" of the Virgin Mary, and we will taste the sacred water from its famous ayazma (holy spring).

09:50 AM

Walking Upwards along the Theodosian Walls

From here, we’ll begin our scenic uphill walk following the monumental Byzantine land walls. As we walk past historic wooden houses, I will give you a raw, authentic look at Istanbul life away from the typical tourist tracks.

10:20 AM

The Masterpiece: Chora Church Museum(Kariye Mosque)

After our rewarding walk, I will guide you through the newly reopened Kariye. I can’t wait to show you these world-renowned 14th-century Byzantine mosaics and frescoes as we unravel its layers of history together.

11:20 AM

Refreshment Break at the Pink Pavilion (Pembe Köşk)

After that uphill climb and a deep dive into Byzantine history, we deserve a beautiful break. Right next to Kariye, we’ll sit in the peaceful garden of this historic wooden pavilion to try their famous, refreshing Reyhan Şerbeti (traditional purple basil drink), homemade lemonade, or a traditional Turkish coffee before we head down the hill.

12:00 PM

Moving Down to Balat’s Treasures: Surp Hreşdagabet

Now for the easy part—we head straight down into the flatlands of Balat. Our first stop is the Surp Hreşdagabet Armenian Church, a fascinating sanctuary known for its deep history, unique underground sections, and healing traditions.

12:40 PM

Jewish Heritage: Yanbol & Ahrida Synagogues // Bay-Window Cafe Chat

We’ll walk down the historic streets to pass by the Yanbol and Ahrida Synagogues (outer views). These are two of the oldest and most significant Jewish houses of worship in the city, dating back to Romaniote and Sephardic times.

01:00 PM

Agora Meyhanesi Culture

I’ll take you to see the historic Agora Meyhanesi to share the fascinating story of Istanbul's centuries-old tavern culture.

01:20 PM

Lunch: Fındık Kabuğunda Köfte

A Culinary Secret: For lunch, I’m taking you to try something truly special—delicious, juicy Turkish meatballs grilled over hazelnut shells (fındık kabuğu). It gives the meat an incredible, unique flavor that locals absolutely love.

02:30 PM

The Iron Church: St. Stephen of the Bulgars

We walk to the edge of the water to visit the unique Bulgarian Iron Church. I’ll tell you the incredible story of how it was prefabricated in Vienna entirely out of cast iron and shipped down the Danube.

03:20 PM

The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople

We enter the spiritual center of the Eastern Orthodox world: St. George's Cathedral. I'll show you the breathtaking, gold-clad iconostasis and explain its massive global significance.

04:00 PM

Vodina Street Stroll & Colorful Stairs

We’ll wander down bustling Vodina Street, famous for its antique shops, local artisans, and designer boutiques. We'll stop by the famous colorful stairs for some vibrant photos.

04:30 PM

The Red Castle & The Blood Church

We make our grand ascent up the hill to stand before the majestic, red-brick Phanar Greek Orthodox College (The Kızıl Okul) dominating the skyline. Right nearby, we’ll visit the tragic and beautiful Church of St. Mary of the Mongols (Kanlı Meryem), the only Byzantine church never converted into a mosque.

04:40 PM

Postcard-Perfect Kiremit Street

As we walk along the ridge, I'll lead you to Kiremit Street to capture those iconic, fairy-tale pastel row houses that everyone falls in love with.

Reviews

Fun, Informative, Engaging

We had a large group that included four teenagers. Yagmur took us to see historical sites and shopping. She was fun, kept the kids engaged, helped us with negotiating some purchases, took us for an excellent lunch and snacks, and provided us with deeply informed context about what we were seeing and about Istanbul. She is a consummate professional. Highly recommended.

It’s an honor for me to hear such great reviews from you! Thank you for your feedback. Greetings from Istanbul

Professional, knowledgeable and pleasant

We are a family of hour and explored the heart of the city with Yagmur today. She was proactive communicating with us ahead of time. The tour itself was excellent. Yagmur’s knowledge, passion and wit shone through in her description of the wonderful sites we toured. She was patient in answering our questions and adjusted the tour to suit our areas of interest. The pace of the tour felt just right and overall we were very satisfied having spent the day with her and coming off much better informed than we’d be had we gone by ourselves. Definitely recommended.
