Yes, we can also arrange pick-up from hotels near the airport, such as Wyndham Garden, or in surrounding areas like Puembo. Please note that an extra fee applies for pick-ups outside Quito city limits or in distant areas.
Pululahua Volcano
Our adventure begins at the Pululahua Geobotanical Reserve, one of the most unique places in Ecuador and in the world. This incredible volcanic crater is one of the few that is inhabited by people, with small farms and communities living right inside the crater’s fertile soil.
Here, we’ll take a short walk to a couple of viewpoints that offer breathtaking panoramic views of the crater and the surrounding Andes. While we enjoy the scenery, I’ll share with you the fascinating history and geology of Pululahua, how this ancient volcano last erupted thousands of years ago and how its rich volcanic soil now supports local life and agriculture.
It’s the perfect spot to start our journey, to feel the peaceful atmosphere and connect with the natural beauty of Ecuador before heading to the Equator line.
Intiñan Museum
Next, we’ll visit the Intiñan Museum, a fun and interactive place located right on the Equator line. This museum combines science, culture, and tradition, offering a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else.
Here you’ll take part in several hands-on experiments that demonstrate the fascinating effects of being on the Equator — like balancing an egg on a nail, watching water spin in different directions depending on the hemisphere, and testing your balance as you try to walk along the Equator line itself!
The museum also showcases Ecuador’s indigenous cultures, with exhibits that display traditional houses, tools, and customs from various regions of the country. It’s a perfect mix of fun, learning, and local culture, an experience that truly connects you with the spirit of Ecuador.
Monument to the Middle of the World historic site
Our final stop will be at the Monument to the Middle of the World, an iconic landmark that marks the spot where the Earth is divided into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This monument honors the 18th-century French Geodesic Mission, which came to Ecuador to determine the true shape of the Earth and locate the Equator line.
Here, we’ll walk along the famous yellow line, taking fun photos with one foot in each hemisphere a moment everyone loves to capture! Inside the monument, you’ll find a beautiful museum that showcases Ecuador’s rich diversity, highlighting the traditions, landscapes, and people from the country’s four main regions: the Andes, the Coast, the Amazon, and the Galápagos Islands.
You’ll also have time to explore the surrounding complex, filled with local shops, cafés, and cultural displays — a perfect place to enjoy the lively atmosphere and take home a special memory of your visit to the center of the world.
Return journey to your hotel
After our visit to the Middle of the World, we’ll begin our return trip to your hotel.
The drive back will take approximately 40 minutes, depending on the location of your accommodation and traffic conditions.
It’s the perfect time to relax, enjoy the views of Quito, and reflect on this unforgettable half-day experience at the center of the world.
