Valley of The Kings

The Valley of the Kings is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, located on Luxor’s West Bank. It served as the royal burial ground for pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom (1550–1070 BC). Hidden between rugged desert hills, this sacred valley holds over 60 tombs carved deep into the limestone cliffs, richly decorated with vivid wall paintings and hieroglyphs that illustrate the journey of the soul through the afterlife. Among the most remarkable tombs are those of Tutankhamun, Ramses VI, and Seti I, each showcasing extraordinary art, color, and craftsmanship that have survived for thousands of years. Walking through these tombs offers a rare glimpse into the beliefs, rituals, and daily life of ancient Egypt, as well as the incredible skill of its artists. Visiting the Valley of the Kings is like stepping back in time, where history, mystery, and beauty come together in one unforgettable place.

Hatshepsut Temple

The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, also known as Deir el-Bahari, is one of the most impressive monuments on Luxor’s West Bank. Built in the 15th century BC, it honors Egypt’s only female pharaoh, who ruled with great power and vision. The temple’s unique design features three massive terraces that blend seamlessly into the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, creating a breathtaking backdrop. Its walls and colonnades are adorned with detailed reliefs depicting Hatshepsut’s divine birth, her trade expedition to the Land of Punt, and scenes of offerings to the gods. Unlike many other temples, it emphasizes harmony between architecture and nature, making it a masterpiece of ancient engineering. Visiting Hatshepsut Temple offers not only insight into the queen’s extraordinary reign but also an unforgettable view of ancient art, history, and elegance set dramatically against the desert mountains.

Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues that have stood proudly on Luxor’s West Bank for more than 3,400 years. Each towering about 18 meters high, they once guarded the entrance to the grand mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, which was among the largest temples of ancient Egypt. Carved from single blocks of quartzite sandstone transported from quarries near Cairo, the statues depict the seated king with his hands resting on his knees, gazing east toward the rising sun. Over time, the temple itself was destroyed by floods and earthquakes, but the colossi endured as timeless guardians of history. In Roman times, one of the statues was famed for producing a mysterious “singing” sound at dawn, believed to be the voice of Memnon from Greek mythology, attracting travelers from across the ancient world. Today, the Colossi of Memnon remain iconic symbols of Luxor, welcoming visitors to the treasures of the West Bank.

Perfect tailor-made half day tour in Luxor

After a great first day with Ali, we met him again today and spent time at the Valley of the Queens’, the Valley of the Workers and finally the Temple of Ramsis the third. We had a great time and learnt a lot about the second kingdom and the habits of the people during that time. Definitely a recommended tour and guide.
