Here are some important things to keep in mind when touring through Israel; 

- Check visa requirements carefully and ensure your passport is valid and up to date. 

- Learn a few basic phrases in both Arabic and Hebrew, though many people do speak English especially in tourist areas. 

- Stay aware of your surroundings and try to avoid large crowds or protest actions. 

- Do not bring up political or religious topics in conversation with strangers. 

- Bring a hat and sunscreen - Israel has a hot and dry climate so take proper precautions to avoid sunburn. 

- Convert some of your cash into Israeli shekel for easy payment for small services (taxi’s, porters, etc.). 

While it depends on the location, in most public spaces you can dress casually but sensibly (nothing too revealing). You should always dress respectfully when visiting some of the country’s many religious sites - this means covered knees and shoulders as well as closed shoes. Some places of worship may also ask women to cover their hair. It does get hot in summer, so bring lightweight clothes and a hat, and female visitors may want to bring a light shawl to cover their shoulders when required.

- Try the local food, with its fusion of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine Israel has some of the most exciting food in the world! 

- Act and dress respectfully when visiting places of worship or other locations with religious significance. 

- Most places accept cards, but do carry some cash for smaller purchases. 

- Take your time to learn about the country’s rich culture and history (it’s not all about religion). 

- Be ready for potential security checkpoints and related delays.

Don'ts:

- Don’t disrespect religious sites or local customs. 

- Don’t take pictures of police or military personnel or security checkpoints without express permission. 

- If you’re only there to look it’s best to avoid religious sites during prayer times. 

- Don’t litter or in any way tarnish public spaces or historical buildings. 

- Don’t ignore official travel warnings or security advice.

It’s important to note that certain countries may not allow you entry if your passport contains evidence of previous travel to Israel (irrespective of your nationality or religion). These include Syria, Iran, Kuwait, Yemen, Libya, Lebanon, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia - although these restrictions may change so it’s best to check before your trip if you plan to also visit one of these countries. It’s also possible that entry will be granted but you may have to provide additional documentation.
