Would you like to discover the power of Sicily's most famous volcano? In
this private tour, completely different from classic tours, we will see how
this natural phenomenon has changed the landscape of the city.
We will see the Benedictine Monastery (included as a UNESCO Heritage Site), the Roman Theater, the Ursino Castle and some hidden gems of the city, always related to Mt. Etna.
During this tour, you will discover what the eruption of 1669 did to the city of Catania. Walk with me!

Meeting Point
Chiesa di San Nicolò, Piazza Dante
- We'll meet in front of the Church of San Nicolò. It is a huge church really easy to recognize, in fact it has... huge half columns!
Benedectine Monastery (Unesco World Heritage Site)
First of all, we enter the courtyard of the Benedictine Monastery of
Catania. This historic site was one of the first to be damaged by the 1669
eruption, which left important remains still visible today, such as enormous blocks of lava several meters high.
We will reach the place in particular where the lava came, and I'll tell you in deteail what happened and how the Monastery was damaged.
Roman Theatre
We will continue our tour reaching the Roman Theatre, while I tell you
the story of the Amenano River, a river whose course today is almost entirely underground, and therefore full of charm and mystery.
This will be the first roman rest that we will see in Catania. The position of this theatre is quite strange, because it looks like... hidden. I will tell you why, and I explain you in detail its story.
Sant'Anna street
While we will walk on this street, I will show you some old pictures of some of Etna's eruptions, and show you also some stunning videos of Etna's lava flows.
Ursino Castle - the fortress of Catania
This is the most important Middle Age rest that we have in Catania. This castle was built in 1200 as a fortress, in front of the sea. I will tell you how the role of this castle changed throughout the centuries and what now it represents for the citizens of Catania.
This caste is strictly connected to the eruption of 1669, and I'll tell you why.
I'll tell you about this eruption, showing some interesting pictures and paintings of that period.
We will walk arount it, so that you can see with your eyes the strength of Etna on the city center of Catania.
Hidden Gem: a volcanic cave!
We reach a bar called Putia dell'Ostello. Inside this bar I will show you a hidden gem: a volcanic cave created by Mt. Etna in this same eruption we are discovering step by step: the eruption of 1669. Inside this cave, there is an underneath river which flows: Amenano River.
While we enjoy the freshness of the cave, I will tell you how this eruption didn't destroy the city and how the defenisive walls of Catania saved the city.
Fish Market
We walk through fish market, a historical local market opened every day, from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 1 pm. If you book the tour in the morning, we will enjoy the beauty of the market stalls, appreciating the plenty of colours of fruit, vegetables and fish. A must, if you are in Catania!
Sea Arches/ Railway line of Catania
We will along these very interesting arches: the Sea Arches. This is the place where the train crosses the city. I'll tell you its story, which is a very interesting inspiration in order to understand the relationship between Catania and the sea.
Pacini Garden - the ancient mouth of Amenano River
We will say goodbye at the Pacini Garden. I will show a part of Amenano River, which was the old mouth of it. I'll terminate the tour showing you old pictures and telling you that, here exactly where we are, once there was the sea!

Hiking Guide and Tour Guide!
If you want to discover Etna, some natural beauties in East Sicily, or cities like Catania, Syracuse or Taormina, you can count on me.
Six years ago I gave life to a project, with the idea of shooting documentaries about each area of Sicily I visit, to document it through short videos and tell it to the viewers. Thanks to this idea, asking hospitality to the municipalities and, in return, I make a video, I have been discovering hundreds of hidden natural, urban and archeological gems.
What's the aim of my ''Gowithguide' profile? Show the travellers how much-hidden beauties we have in Sicily.
I want you to experience Sicily deeply as Sicilians do: this is my aim.
For this reason, thanks to my work of documentaries around Sicily (subtitled in English and many other languages) I am also known as “the popularizer of Sicilianity”!
See you soon in Sicily!
