On this hiking tour around Etna and the Bove Valley, we'll follow the Schiena dell'Asino trekking route, one of the easiest and more complete trekking routes that can be done in this natural park.

Meeting Point

Schiena dell'Asino car Park

- We meet at the Schiena dell'Asino Car Park and we start walking. We will walk under the shadow of a pinewood, in order to enjoy the shade and the freshness of the area.

Nice balcony

After 20 minutes walking, we will reach an amazing natural balcony from which we can admire the beauty of south-east Sicily. We can easy the coast of Catania, the coast of Syracuse and many craters wich were created by Mt Etna

Bove Valley

Finally we have reached the Bove Valley! We are on an amazing terrace, and here we can admire a huge desert of lava stone, created by Mt Etna. It is a desert 7 km long per 5 km width. On the left we can admire Mt Etna with its active craters, and on the right we can see the north East Coast of Sicily, with Taormina, Castelmola, till the Calabria coast.

Walking on the border of the valley

We start walking on the border of the Bove Valley, admiring the beauties we have around.

After that, we will cross some funny lava sand channels, where we can walk, run (or roll if you want!).

After that, we will see a volcanic cave: the Pytagora's Cave.

Coming back to the main road

We have been walking for almost 3 hours and we have come back to the main path. Instead of going simply up and down, this excursion is thought with the idea to create a ring.

After we have come back to the main path, step by step we come back to the parking lot.

I suggest to bring with you:

- 1/2 liters of water;

- a hat to protect your head;

- something to nibble during the walk;

- hike shoes or sport shoes;

- high soaks

- a sweater or a jumper in case of wind or cold

This activity is NOT suggested to the people who have problems with the heart or with the knees.

My activity normally starts around 9:15/9:30 am.
