08:30 AM

Meeting Point

At the lobby at the Port

- Meeting at Incheon Cruise Terminal: Look for your name on my pickup sign.

10:00 AM

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace was the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910), a kingdom built upon Confucian philosophy and a sophisticated governing system. As we walk through the palace grounds, you will discover how architecture, political ideals, and nature were harmonized to express the order of the state. The palace was not simply a royal residence; it was the symbolic center of governance where kings ruled, scholars advised the court, and the Confucian vision of society was implemented.

You will see the throne hall (Geunjeongjeon), royal council spaces, and the carefully planned layout that reflected Joseon’s hierarchy and worldview. Along the way, I will explain how Korea adopted and adapted the classical Confucian system of governance while shaping its own political culture. This helps explain long-lasting values in Korean society such as education, meritocracy, and the role of scholarship in government.

Damaged during periods of foreign invasions and later restored, Gyeongbokgung also reflects the resilience of Korean history.

By the time we leave the palace, you will not only have seen impressive royal architecture, but also gained insight into the political philosophy and governing principles that shaped Korea for more than five centuries.

12:10 PM

Bukchon Hanok Village

We then walk to Bukchon Hanok Village, a historic neighborhood located between the royal palaces. During the Joseon period, this area developed as a prestigious residential district for scholar-officials who served the royal court. Living close to the palace and major government institutions reflected both status and responsibility within the governing elite of the kingdom.

As we explore the quiet lanes of Bukchon, you will see traditional hanok houses that illustrate how architecture, daily life, and Confucian values were closely connected. The design of these homes reveals ideas about family hierarchy, harmony with nature, and the social order that shaped Joseon society.

At the same time, Bukchon also tells a story of transformation. While the neighborhood preserves the atmosphere of historic Seoul, its landscape has evolved over time, reflecting the changes of a modern city built upon centuries of tradition.

Walking through Bukchon allows us to understand not only how people lived in the past, but also how historical layers continue to exist within contemporary Seoul.

01:00 PM

Insadong cultural district

Insadong has long been known as a center of traditional culture in Seoul. The streets are lined with galleries, calligraphy shops, antique stores, traditional tea houses, and small craft boutiques.

This area reflects the continuity of Korean artistic and intellectual traditions. Walking through Insadong offers a glimpse into the atmosphere where traditional aesthetics, craftsmanship, and everyday urban life meet in modern Seoul.

03:00 PM

Myeong dong shopping district

Myeongdong is one of the liveliest districts in Seoul and a symbol of the city’s modern commercial culture. The area is famous for its vibrant streets filled with fashion boutiques, cosmetics shops, cafés, and food stalls.

It offers a vivid contrast to the historical sites visited earlier in the tour and provides a glimpse of contemporary urban life in Seoul before returning to the cruise port.

04:00 PM

Leave for Incheon International Cruise port

Ensuring a safe arrival before your ship’s departure.

Fascinating visit to the DMZ with Andy

Four of us were on a cruise ship docked at Incheon and organised the day trip to the DMZ on gowithguide several months in advance. Andy was waiting in the cruise ship terminal when we disembarked and had his luxurious people carrier parked close by. After a short drive, we arrived at the DMZ, visited tunnel number 3, the observation tower and the Gloucester Regiment memorial. Andy was good company, informative and with a good sense of humour. He got us back to the dock in plenty time for our departure and we would certainly recommend him to anyone planning a visit to the Seoul or Incheon area.

Thank you very much for your kind review! It was a real pleasure meeting you and your group during your cruise stop in Incheon and sharing the DMZ with you. I’m very glad everything worked smoothly with the ship schedule and that you were able to experience the Third Tunnel, the observatory and the Gloucester Regiment memorial. Your group was wonderful company, and I truly enjoyed our conversations throughout the day. Thank you again for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. Andy

A fascinating tour from a great guide!

We had a wonderful day and half private tour with Andy! He was responsive and easy to plan our custom day and a half tour in Seoul, listening to our interests and making recommendations. We had a half day in the National Museum for a crash course in Korean History, followed by a full day exploring the Palace, Insadong and finishing at the War Memorial Museum. You can tell that Andy is a truly interested and passionate about Korean history, which made for a very engaging tour. He was a gracious and caring host that went the extra mile to help us enjoy our visit - his brand new minivan is also very comfortable to travel between locations. I would certainly recommend Andy. If you are thinking of any sort of tour around Seoul, give him message to discuss your ideas!
