We continue our drive to fes where we will stay overnight in a Traditionel Local Riad.Bed and Breakfast. BB
After breakfast we leave the Ismaalian capital behind and travel through the countryside arriving at the ancient roman town of Volubilis. There you will have time to explore this archaeological site which features the best preserved Roman ruins in northern Africa, a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. Of particular interest is the Basilica, mosaic of Diana and the Bathing Nymphs and Triumphal Arch. We continue on to the Imperial city of Fes where you will stay overnight in a riad at the heart of the medina.
You will spend most of the day with a local guide exploring the attractions of Fes. The city was founded 1,000 years ago by the second Moulay Idriss. Your tour starts from the Royal Palace gate and takes you through the narrow streets of the medina to the Jewish Quarter and the Tanneries. This tour highlights all the sites with cultural and historical interest including the Bou Inania Medersa and the Karaouiyine Mosque. Afterwards you have the opportunity to visit the ceramics cooperative to see traditional Moroccan crafts. In the afternoon we will take you to admire the panoramic view over the medina and visit the new city to experience modern Fes.
We will drive across the cedar forest of Azrou to witness the wildness of Morocco; we will see the monkeys and barbarian apes. Half way, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. Continue on mountain roads overlooking the wide flowing Oued Ziz. Passing Kasbahs and palm groves we pass through the adobe colored city of Er-Rachidia and arrive in the afternoon to Merzouga, saddle on your camels for your journey across the desert during a beautiful sunset to reach your camp for the night by the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Overnight in the Nomad tent, night full of stars, Berber music. A night you will not forget.
Get up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes, possibly the best moment of the desert experience. Leaving the desert behind, you will begin your travel to Alnif, heading towards the volcanic Jbel of Saghro of dramatic rock formations and gorges, where you will take a walk up in the towering Todra Gorges (600 feet high). The picturesque river valleys make for a beautiful journey towards the southeast of Morocco. Continue your journey towards another impressive gorge Dades, passing the strange rock creation of Tamnalt Hills. Overnight in the heart of Dades Gorge, with dinner and breakfast.
After having breakfast you will set off towards the High Atlas Mountains via Ait Ben Haddou . Take off road about 25 kms by your 4x4, you will discover nomad life in cave then to arrive to the center of Moroccan roses and rose products. Then continue your trip via the Road of One Thousand Kasbahs, passing the Skoura palm oasis before arriving in Ouarzazate. Visit the UNESCO heritage Kasbah Ait Benhaddou. In typical Moroccan fashion, the true treasures must be searched out and discovered... usually off the beaten path. In actuality, this setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco; films including, Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and recently The Gladiator. Lunch can be taken at Ait Benhaddou. We will visit the Kasbah of Telouet which was occupied by the Pacha Glaoui during his reign and is frequented by Moroccan travelers. It sits in the village of Telouet located outside the Onilla Valley. The Harem and reception hall areas give one a good idea of the former luxury in which El Glaoui lived, as well as a look at the Andalusian style of decorating. However, the older parts of the Kasbah are in complete ruins, making it difficult to see properly. Walking through the crumbling passageways is like walking through a maze and some have gotten lost exploring the ruined Kasbah. In the afternoon, we cross over the High Atlas mountains towards Marrakech. Drop off at your accommodation.

“Overpriced and not as advertised ”
When I accepted Go With Guide's advertised price of $450, the price increased to $550 without explanation. The desert experience at erg chebbi was much less than promise. We hardly spent any time on the dunes and did not camp in tents that were advertised. Instead we spent the night in a tent hotel. The tents were so hot we were advised to sleep outside. In Morocco there were similar tours that cost signifigantly less. The best part of the tour was the riad in Fez.
