Meeting Point
Plaza de la Encarnación -Metropol Parasol - Las Setas.
- Meeting point next to the fountain in the middle of the square. We begin our walk next to this imposing structure that has renewed the image of the city. Here we will learn a little of the city's long history and begin our walk.
The olds hospitals of Seville
In this first part we will see some of the many historic hospitals that once existed in Seville. Some of them still maintain part of their healthcare function. Also we will walk some some historical areas with beautiful squares, streets and churches.
The Alameda de Hércules.
This large square was the first public park in Europe and served as a model for many others built in America. The original garden was built over an ancient lake. The columns that decorate it were brought in the 16th century from an ancient Roman site. This enclave of the city was a meeting place for centuries, after a period of decadence, today it is the cool neiborghood of Seville.
Church of San Lorenzo and Basilica del Gran Poder.
This church is a mixture of Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Baroque influences. However, this place is very important in Seville as it is part of one of its most important religious traditions: La Semana Santa (Holy Week).
Monastery of Santa Clara and Torre de Don Fadrique.
The monastery of San Clara is nowadays a cultural centre and is being restored. Within its walls we can find very special places, including structures that were once part of one of the most important palaces in the city.
Coffee-Break
Omnium Sanctorum Church and Feria Market
This area is the heart of the daily activity in this part of the city. The Mercado de la Feria is the oldest market in use in Seville and the church of Omnium Sanctorum is one of the oldest parishes, founded in 1249, shortly after the Castilian conquest.
Palace of the Marquises of La Algaba.
This palace combines the medieval influences of Mudejar art with the influence of the Renaissance. Recently restored, it houses a cultural centre dedicated to Mudejar art.
Arch and Basilica of La Macarena
This is the site of one of the few remaining gates of the old medieval walls of Seville, one of the longest in Europe. Next to the gate is the Basilica de la Macarena, one of the main temples in the Holy Week.
Novitiate and Church of San Luis de los Franceses
This spectacular building is one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Seville. Built on the site of an ancient medieval palace between the 17th and 18th centuries, it houses incredible spaces and works of art.
Church of San Marcos and Corrales de Artesanos
After passing by the church of San Marcos and admiring its façade and tower that combine Gothic and Mudejar art, we will visit some old industrial enclaves from the 19th and early 20th century that are nowadays part of the alternative culture in Seville.
